I'm out completely. The hobby has just taken too much of a toll on me, my finances and my marriage. It's just not worth it anymore. I really love the stuff but not enough to make it more important than other things.

It's all going to go over time and one day down the road if I can do it again, I will...

What happened man?

I basically quit as well. I have sold everything I had pretty much, I am only buying all the Hot Toys Dark Knight items and then that is it for me. Next time I will buy any figures will be if Hot Toys makes Batman figures from the 3rd Nolan movie (if a 3rd Nolan film is made).

I've had to become very selective myself over the last several months (both space and $$ being issues). Cancelled everything I had on PO - but I HAVE to have the Bezerker PF - so that will most likely be the one and only thing I get for awhile.

you know, i've only been collecting for a couple of years, and i was talking to a collector/businessman in florida the other day, and he had a excellant piece of advise that goes along with jen's quote above.

he said that the secret to staying in this hobby is to not burn yourself out, and be selective in what you buy, not having to purchase everything and need everything, he said that this hobby is like crack,(probably more costly) and is one of the most addicting hobbies that anyone could get hooked on.

maybe some of us may have to get out completely, but it'd be nicer if most of us could still be involved somehow, if only purchasing one or even two items a year, instead of 10-12. concentrate on the must haves, and that way you'll still have an interest, and that one or two must haves you get a year will only be that much sweeter.

I've been collecting my entire life so I don't see myself quitting ever. I may slow down, and even speed up, but I'll never quit.

I have a large list of 1/6ths I would buy if made but most likely only a fraction of that list will be made so I'm not too worried there. At the moment I've cut out all Star Wars 3 3/4" stuff apart from Original trilogy and there hasn't been much of that this year. I await a VISA bill with all my current hot toys preorders on it bar one - the dog alien with SSC. Once I get those paid I'll see where I stand financially and how much these things are costing. It keeps changing.

Don't want to quit collecting but would be wise to be more selective.

:lecture..........

It's funny. I'm mostly a collector of small toys (often very small ones in Minimates, Kubricks, and GI Joes), but I recently got a couple of cheap DCD 13 inch and Sideshow Toys providing a "gateway" into 1/6 figures, and with the HT Jokers pre-ordered, I think I'm well on my way to becoming a serious 1/6 fiend.

So, my toy collecting is far from slowing down, but on the whole, it is staying fairly constant. I'm a poor student, so I've got to sell old stuff to pay for anything new.

I would sell some old stuff such as all my prequel/EU Star wars toys but...i just can't be arsed. I'd have to gather it all together, inventory it, decide whether I'd accept selling items seperately, advertise it, arrange a price, possibly have to ship it if I didn't get a local buyer. Meh.

Heh, I've done that for the last two years to pay for new figures. Sold all of my Star Wars Lego last year (which was a lot) Then sold computer parts, plus my Wii and the one MR Saber that I had. Now I don't have anything valuable enough that I can do without, so I guess I better get more money.

Luckily though, while I'm in college I'll be able to skip the semester next fall so I'll have a lot more money between Summer and Fall to be able to pay for stuff. Then the spring semester afterward is my last semester of school and then I'll be able to get a real job that should pay a lot more.

Don't think I'll ever get out, so far I've been able to avoid credit card debt and pay for things if I have the money or cancel them.

This year I was buying just about anything even if I wasn't that into it. I'll probably cancel Iron Spider-Man EX, 300 Leonidas PF and some other 12 inch figures and just focus on the must have PF's such as the Berzerker EX.

So for those of you who bailed on 1:6 lines or are in the process of getting out, have you bailed on collecting completely, or just 1:6? For example I know a lot of people bail on the 1:6 figures and just concentrate on the occasional premium format figure or statue.

Over the years my collecting has definitely slowed and become more selective. A lot of stuff that simply became clutter was sold in order to pay for a few better items and I've been much happier for it. You can't get everything and if you're selective about the things you do get I find it much more enjoyable.

I'm holding steady. I've been slow to change over from the LOTR line. Star Wars has eaten up some and Hellboy too!

There are great pieces still coming, I just have to be selective with my pre-orders and think about items that I will actually display.

i think what has slowed down my collecting is that i get caught up in the moment of previews & the pre-order process and then whenever the item arrives i open it admire it & say "what the hell did i order this for???"..:lol
its not that way with everything but after being let down by more than a few items has actually streamlined my must haves vs. cool but dont have to haves. i can enjoys a lot of things i passed on vicariously thru freaks pics...:D

I think that's good advice... when you are buying everything and anything it almost becomes a chore can become pretty ridiculous. I find that if I try and really only focus on figures I really want and can display I keep out of trouble.

Also, I do the occassional fat-trimming which helps keep the collection in check and provide some extra $$$ for figures I really want.

I've pretty much resolved myself to quitting all 1:6 lines completely and concentrating solely on PF's and a few other items. I can no longer afford both now.

If it wasn't for Flex-Pay, I probably would have been out of the game, temporarily.

For now, I'm selling off everything 1:6 starting with my SW figures, and canceling my pre-orders, including Hot Toys and Medicom figures. They are too rich for my blood now.

i'm about to drop/sell my 1/6 stuff. don't get me wrong i love them but when i look around my man cave, the 1/6 stuff just doesn't stand up agains the PF's as a whole very well. I think i'll just get PF's of character i really like and shrink my collection. like instead of 3 version of Han in 1/6 format, I'll send my PF off to be repainted and the money i will have save from not having the 1/6 versions will pay for the paint job. yep, i think that's what i'll do...space is far past being an issue. although i think i'll always have a few 1/6'ers like my Hurricane Vader because that is just a shrunk down version of the real thing.

oh and course i'll keep collecting Transformers.

I've been selling lots of stuff lately...
I'll be gathering a bunch of stuff I have in storage and get rid of it...
My collection will only be 1/6 scale and 3 3/4 scale... and MOTU...

meh..i' m on and off again with my selection. earlier this year i got on the AVP lineup and bought up all of them as well as the Star Wars 1:1 busts. the only line that i really trimmed off was the Star Wars 1/6 and that's only because i think the inflated prices don't justify the dodgy quality. however, i simply replaced those figures with the Hot Toys Iron Man and Batman figures.
