Right now I'm in this state where I'm selling something to have money for something else. Instead of spending the money, I choose something I can part with and use the money I make for what I want to purchase. This won't work for a long term period, but it's a temporary solution.

There really seems to be a major loss of interest in the hobby in general. I am even seeing the vendors at the local scalper show closing up shops left and right.

What happened man?

LONG STORY. Basically the other half doesn't quite agree with my habits. I told her a while ago I would stop and I didn't. And instead of telling her, I hid it all so I wouldn't have to hear her complain. Well, my dumb ass got caught and it started WWIII. And space is a HUGE issue as 99% of my collection stays boxed since we're in a tiny townhouse with no spare rooms. Instead of being tempted to buy more i'm just going to sell pretty much everything and just leave a choice few pieces. It's been taking up way too much time and money and just isn't worth it anymore...

This is pretty much how i've been operating for the last year or so. My problem is I'll sell small things to buy BIG things which causes the lack of space issue...

Were you collecting figs when you two got together? If so, then it isn't really fair for her to complain now unless it's a money issue and it's causing problems.

Oh man, that does suck. Too bad she doesn't understand why you like collecting so much. I think the key to this hobby is moderation. If you only buy a few things a year that you really love then you will be able to enjoy the hobby for much longer. That is what I have been doing.

I am making a list of must haves versus can't afford. So I will be cutting back a lot.
Exchange and duties are killing me. The Samaritan cost me a bundle.

I've lost count on the pre-orders I've canceled. I've gotten into it deep and trying to get the stuff that came out a few years ago is what really hurts your pocket. Like I just got into hot toys and started with the predator line :sick yeah that made a hole in my pocket. Im starting to only get what I like though and stay away from trying to get everything thats out there.....

Luckily I don't collect alot of lines. Plus it seems once I start a line, I kill it!

Be prepared. I want the new Hellboy figs! :lol

I only started in August. Dove in way to deep way too fast it seems. I'm having a terrible time to find a full-time job, so I already have to stop collecting for now, and may have to start selling them already, after all the custom work I've had done on all my figures... it hurts.

I learned long ago that if you can't display your collection and instead it sits boxed in a closet or in storage or in the attic, then you're not a "collector" but a "hoarder".

Get rid of the "stuff". You're getting no enjoyment out of it. And don't fall into that trap of justifying the hoarding by thinking, "One day I'm going to buy a bigger house..." or "...one day I'll convert the baby's room into my Man-Cave..." Even if it does happen, you're tastes and hobbies may have changed by then.

I've always been selective in regards to the pieces/items that I buy. With that in mind, I have sold off very few pieces. Those that were sold ended up going for significantly more than I paid for, allowing me to fund my hobbies more affordably.

But to be honest, my "hobby funds" have been going in a different direction lately.

Oh and...

I'm selective because I refuse to sell and space is at a premium..

Money isn't really an issue for me.

A friend of mine is moving back to Chicago and has all of his collection boxed up but keeps buying stuff so he doesn't miss out on anything but he isn't moving for another year. So he has all his stuff in boxes upon boxes and more boxes are coming in and he intends to display it all when he gets moved back to Chicago. So what would you call him a hoarder/collector, i mean he even admits he wished he could sell some things just so he didn't have to move it. We are talking like PF Scout Trooper, MR Falcon, MR Helmets, MR Blasters, MR Sabers, more then I can even type he can't even have people over. Its bad.

One year doesn't sound like a long time so he may be able to enjoy them after all. But as you mentioned, it's already affecting how he lives. He can't have people over because there's no room due to all of the collectibles?

I have to admit that while I was waiting for an addition to be completed in my home, I kept some stuff in their boxes so that they wouldn't get damaged. I saw how things could easily get out of hand. I admit that I can be a pack-rat myself. It's just that I have learned with age that these "collectibles" should never become all so important that you neglect or miss out on the important things.

WORD

This year I was buying just about anything even if I wasn't that into it.
I only started in August. Dove in way to deep way too fast it seems. I'm having a terrible time to find a full-time job, so I already have to stop collecting for now, and may have to start selling them already.
I only started this year but have already taken early retirement.

Theese coments make me :banghead I have a buddy who would come by and geek out over my stuff, so two years ago he decided he would have a collection of his own. The poor bastard went insane. He didn't have a focus, just bought anything he could get his greedy little hands on no matter the cost. (over paid) Eventually he got burned out, tried to sell ( lost a lot of dough) now he just has a bunch of crap in boxes. i'm not telling you this story to make fun of him or the posters above. I can understand where you are coming from, in the early to mid 90s I went Mcfarlane toy crazy. Just remember hobbies should be fun not something you have to walk away from scarred. You can't own everything, unless your me. I'M RICH ^^^^^!!

I don't want to quit collecting by any means, but I am going to have to cut down on pre-orders due to finances. Granted my collection isn't all that big considering I haven't been collecting too long, but space is already becoming an issue as well. I pretty much collect only PF's, with a couple 12 inch figures and a couple other polystone statues from SS thrown in. I have both the Moria Orc PF Ex, and the Berserker PF Ex on pre-order, and I want both, but the Moria Orc is most likely going to get the axe since its coming in December......unless it gets pushed back, which would be nice for me anyway. If I had to choose between the two anyway it would probably be the Berserker. So yeah the cancellations are gonna be starting for me, and will probably just increase from there. :monkey2
