If they had kept "wax on," it would be a straight remake.

Changing it to "jacket on," Hollywood has given us a fresh take, reimagining a classic for a new age. Brilliant!

i've said this before but it merits repeating... i absolutely refuse to watch this movie on general principle alone.

what principle is that? well, let's see: the movie is set in china, it's main star is chinese, and it is all about kung fu, a distinctly chinese martial art. and yet the title is still "the KARATE kid". shameless, blatant, desperate name-recall cash-in, anyone?

jackie chan, the producers and the film studio can all go f---- themselves.

I saw the trailer once, and I agree that the title makes no sense beyond cashing in on the reputation of the original, but everything I saw in that trailer looked cool. There's no such thing as "better" martial arts than others...
maybe Kung Fu is a bit more "flashy" but calling it that much better is quite the overstatement...

It looks like a movie my kids would enjoy. I have no right to complain because it's not made just for me. If my kids enjoy the movie, they did their job, re-make or not.
