I don't think you can compare these characters. Personally I don't even know who Patrick Bateman is. Neither as a custom figure by Iminime or a character from a movie(?). EVERYONE knows who Clint Eastwood is. This was a remarkable sculpt and to some degree generic enough to be used as the Bounty Hunter with a STEVO hat or Hang Em High, High Plains Drifter, Josie Wales, Rowdy, Harry or Kelly or the guy in "Paint Your Wagon"

Maybe "Q" did'nt see this a money maker worthy of the investment he'd put into it. You say popular and rare. how many folks are after one ? Less than a dozen ?

Unfortunately your assessment doesn't apply in this particular instance. Heres why: The American Psycho Patrick Bateman DX was extremely popular with a huge amount of hype built up around it. That DX edition of 60 sets or so sold out instantly, with aftermarket offers from collectors upwards of $300 plus just for the Laughing sculpt (Many collectors got a few offers for it). I agree that the character is not as popular as Clint Blondie, but for a recaster who sees a potential profit because of demand, this would certainly ring bells for someone like Q who would go so far as to wasting his time recasting a less popular character sculpt just to sell. Look at his listing. A Patrick Bateman could would have certainly been popular with American Psycho fans even Batman fans who wanted a great Bale sculpt to use for a bash because that Bale Iminime sculpt is absolutely fantastic.

This is why someone for certain is helping him acquire these goods. They just weren't interested in that particular figure for their own reasons albeit collecting purposes and decided not to move on it and make some money to cover their costs or whatever in the process.

and IMO Iminime Bateman (Going off pictures alone) is Iminime's best work to date! Looks so amazing!

As somebody who has had both in hand (no DX Blondie sculpt for me though) your absolutely right, Bateman for me is still Iminime's crowing figure across the board. That will likely change though if what we've seen of whats coming is anything to go by.

Respectfully, I'm going to play "you know who's advocate" on something I admittedly know little about.

A laughing sculpt is a niche item. Very scene specific in a cult (or what I would consider obscure film). My guess is it would only be useful in recreating one scene
A REAL Iminime scultped and painted sculpt WOULD be a a REAL collectible---
Desired by hardcore collectors--- who would'nt accept counterfeits

Don't see it as applicable to Bruce Wayne or any other generic Bale character

In the case of Blondie, the hatless version is more useful and generic while the hatted, more readily available item is the more scene specific.

Notice, that "Q" does'nt have the regular (Hat) version of Blondie for sale. That should have been easier for him to obtain and I presume there are still some folks that would want.

To begin with, if Iminime had offered the same number of each version of the Blondie sculpts and I could only buy one I would have probably chosen the hatless version

I agree with you on this. That's also a great point about not having a hatted recast but only the hatless. It sort of makes the pool of potential suppliers much smaller since it was only the hatless recasted (although it seems like it has been removed entirely from his listing). Maybe the Hatted version with cigar stem could have posed too many problems for recasting it to be possible. For example his Bill the Butcher is prettymuch obsolete and worthless not only because it's recasted but specifically because he isn't capable of casting the mustache stems which is a premier detail of that sculpt.

There's also this, I'm no expert by any means on casting but it does appear that Q's recast of the hatless is of much better quality than that recent other recast. Maybe it has to do with one having more skill at doing this than the other but could having a cleaner or original cast add to the level of detail achieved on a recast as opposed to say recasting the painted public offering DX sculpt?

I think the sculpts on both figures are top notch + Tailoring (maybe the Cowboy figures boots could be a bit better)

I think it just comes down to personal preference, I'm a big Eastwood fan and especially of his westerns so its a no brainer who I choose out of the two figs.

I think Bullett's statement was in part a response to which sculpt DX Blondie or laughing Batemen would be a bigger seller for the recaster.

Like you I see a hatless Clint as an iconic recognizable multi-generational somewhat generic (emotionless) useable sculpt for many a kitbash.
A laughing Bateman, regardless of how technically acurate & outstanding is scene specific from a somewhat obscure movie.

Thats not at all what I meant. I was responding to a specific comment agreeing with the fact I felt Bateman was still Iminime's crowning achievement. I believe the clint DX head would sell better on its own compared with the screaming bateman DX head (even though I think it would also sell well). My statement was that I felt Bateman was the overall superior figure not that one of its sculpts was more desirable than the DX hatless clint sculpt.

Bottom line is if Q had a chance to recast Bateman, he would have. He recasts less desirable sculpts than that. So I think Turbo is onto something. We as collectors can at least TRY to combat it in some form. **** Q!

It's all to late to change things anyways, but overall a total disaster begining with the whole "manufactured" hype of a 36 DX set.

This guy has hit the nail on the head. For good or ill, a rarity has been manufactured, and because nature (and the market) abhors a vacuum, the market stepped in to fill the demand.

Don't get me wrong, I abhor recasters, and even dislike those people who think recasting a licensed item is cool, but it inevitably will continue to happen as long as there exists a demand, especially on an easily reproduced item such as a sculpt.

Ultimately, the solution is for iminime to reserve the right to re-release sculpts, and do so as and when demand is sufficient. :)

This new format is very frustrating. Why doesn't it show the date and time of each post like it used to? When I go to the last page, I have no idea how far back to go from where I left off previously. On my iPad, I have to scroll all the way down just to read the first post on a page. Not happy!
