What am I right? LOL!

You spoke about Cobb not being allowed back into his country ''for some reason''

Did you fall asleep :lol

He had to do a runner because Mal had framed him for her murder hence the whole reason he took the Inception on in the first place to gain citizenship back in the US without fear of being jailed

Actually yes! LOL! I was in and out of sleep during the whole damn movie. Partied a bit hard on Saturday evening and went to the noon showing. That's why I want to see it again. I obviously missed some things! :rotfl

And thanks! :duff Again I must have dozed off during that part.

You were spending too much time playing with your iPhone BadMoon. :lol

This movie deserves a repeat viewing if you were hungover or not! Absolutely badass!!!

Nahhh I politely turned mine off. It was reallying pissing me off though. Probably not a good idea to watch a movie about people dreaming and sleeping when you are tired yourself! LOL! I added a 4th dimension to the film I do believe. Even better then 3D. Ha!

I can't wait to see it again! I pretty much got the whole movie I just missed the part about why he couldn't see his kids. :lol

But...that WAS the whole point! He struggled with the notion that his world wasnt real. He had to check each and everytime he entered and exited the dream world. He never had a clear grasp on reality. By the end of the movie, he spins the top, trying to figure out if it's real or not...but he stops looking at the top. He walks away. He does not care if this is reality or a dream. That's what the ending symbolizes. His abilty to let go, and appreciate what he has. He's with his kids. That's all he cares about.

:D

Then you didnt get the ending....because that's what it ment...
So, because we disagree with you, we didn't "get the ending?" :cuckoo:

No, YOU didn't get the ending! :nana:

That was pretty clear. Cobb was done worrying about the state of reality. He was happy. His kids were there. He was free of his mind.

If he was in a dream, that would be the exact opposite of being "free of his mind."

I dont see how that's a bad ending either way. Dream or not...it was about Cobb. Not you. If you think he's in the real world, thats fine. If you think it's a dream...thats fine as well. The point is Cobb living his life, and not falling victim to his mind like Mal did.

In most movies we are meant to see ourselves in the characters. We go on a journey with Cobb.

With that in mind, I believe the message of the movie is weaker if the ending is a dream.

thank you so very much for telling me what to think.
but i am pretty sure i can manage on my own just fine.

i don't see it the way u and others do. but i don't need to impose my own opinion and interpretations on others. because i'm confident in my own take on the film's ending, as well as the themes and subtext(s).

u guys need to learn how to respect other people's opinions a little more.

No you're wrong. :lecture :rotfl

I'm not completely done reading through this thread, but an interesting fact has been pointed out which may lend credence to the "reality" theory.

"Ariadne" is a name from Greek mythology. Ariadne provided Theseus with the ball of thread that he used to escape the maze after slaying the minotaur. Assuming Nolan's use of this particular name isn't just some amazing coincidence ... her name wouldn't make sense if he didn't escape the maze (the dream world) after slaying the minotaur (the haunting image of his wife). If he's still stuck in the maze, she did not serve her purpose.

Interesting comparing Cobb to Odysseus. He went from one island to another to another on his way home and some have speculated that Limbo is made up of islands, with the sea separating the section of Limbo that Mal and Cobb built from the section where Saito has his palace and guards for example. So Cobb may very well have had an Odysseus-like journey to find Saito. That of course is in addition to the broader metaphorical similarity...that the story is about Cobb doing whatever he has to do to get home.

Odysseus (or Ulysses) was on a ten year quest to return home to his family.

Dom = Domus = home. That is the object of his quest

and thanks for proving my point about people here needing to respect others' opinions.

but this will be just lost on you. cheers, mate.

No you are wrong. :lecture

The only thing that's lost is your sense of humor. :lol

I don't even know what you guys are arguing about. Just wanted to say you were wrong.
Cheers! :duff :rotfl

In fairness ... what about respecting his opinion that you are wrong? Haha.

SnakeDoc

Hey someone gets it! :rock :lol

Althought SnakeDoctor is wrong too. All of you rat bastards are hence forth wrong. You all deserve to be sacked. Those that sack you should probably be sacked as well. :rotfl

I refuse to respect your opinion that I am wrong to suggest that he respect your opinion that he is wrong.

Its a wrong within a wrong within a wrong ... and I think we all need a swift kick.

Lighten up a little. If we don't make our points like we believe we are right we don't have much of a discussion do we. :)

Just don't take it so seriously. :duff

[I am right though. :D]

I'm slowly reading through this entire threading and loving all the discussion!! A few quick thoughts:

1. if Nolan ended the movie with the top falling, or not showing the top spin at all, we wouldn't have 32 pages of discussion. THAT is the brilliance of his ending.

2. I love the idea that Nolan showing the top at the end is his Inception on the audience. What is also interesting is as soon as the screen turns to black, the word INCEPTION pops up on the screen.

3. Regarding the mention that DiCaprio framed his character on Nolan, and that the entire movie is an allegory to filmmaking, that is interesting only in that at least 3 times I thought I was watching Nolan on screen instead of DiCaprio. In particular in the scene when you first see Cobb in the hotel in the 2nd level of dreaming. He looked EXACTLY like Nolan.

4. Regarding the RING theory, very interesting. I have only seen the movie once, so I will need to watch this more closely upon a second viewing, but I read somewhere that in the scene where Mal jumps, Cobb is NOT wearing the ring. Now some may argue that that is because he is not dreaming, but that wouldn't make sense since at that point, he is still married to Mal.

5. I found it interesting that Caine's character knew to meet Cobb at the airport. Further, I find it even more interesting that he was practically expecting Cobb to show up, like he was involved somehow. If he truly was part of the plan, you would think that he would have been ecstatic to see Cobb show up. "Wow, you pulled it off!! Congrats!!!" or something like that...

Can't wait to see this again!!

So, I was talking to a work colleague today about the movie. She said she enjoyed it and really enjoyed it visually. So I started talking about some of my theories on the film and how brililant it was and she said "I don't get stressed out about what is real or not in the movie, I have better things to do with my life."
