I must say, it's odd being on this side of the fence. I remember quite vividly attacking the HELL out of TPM, saying it was the WORST film I had ever seen. That the only redeeming factor was the lightsaber battle. And there were those that loved it, and I just kept beating them down for their opinion... just repeating how much I hated the film...

Man, karma comes around... Now I know how the other side felt. :lol

I still think that TPM is a much worse movie than KOTCS.

I'm telling you... this is the Anti-TPM. It's the whole thing all over again, only mirrorred.

Ah, just noticed there's a SPOILER thread:naughty

Here's a few random thoughts...

-First time it shows Indy, my impression is that he looks really old & his voice sounds strange. For most of the rest of the movie, he was the classic Indy I remember.

-Marion seemed forced to me, it was like the actress who played Marion walked onto the set to sign autographs & they just put her in. She seemed out-of-character.

-I'm not ready to see Shia in Indy gear, but like in Transformers, he was great in this film.

-The CG monkeys & the Prairie Dogs sucked and seemed out-of-place.

-too much CG

-I'm still on the fence about the alien storyline.

-I felt insulted by all of the classic Indy references, seemed like they tried too hard to sell people on the whole saga than KotCS alone.

I'm not saying the movie was bad, I still enjoyed it for what it was. I'm hoping it will eventually grow on me, but my first reaction it to feel jaded by the whole thing.

The difference is that you were right then and wrong now. :monkey3 :lol

jk

Dude, you are so right. It's crazy. It's like Summer 1999 again. :lol

Except this time, most people are acting like the movie punched their teeth out when they first see it instead of acting like it is the Second Coming.

It'll all balance itself out in time.

I hope you rolled your eyes like that when Indy went flying out of a plane (and off a 2,000 foot high cliff) on a rubber raft. :lol

Seriously we are talking about a nuclear bomb. Anyone in that path would have been toast. There have been people that have had parachutes not opened and survived. You are in disbelief and you damn well know it. Stop making excuses for an average movie at BEST. I do mean at BEST.

As much as I am a die hard SW fan, I can totally agree with this. Everything rediculous in Indy movies is meant to be rediculous and is done with intent. Anakin's character and dialogue in TPM was a huge anchor that movie, sure the political stuff didn't help but I thought the upbeat slave thing didn't work, still doesn't to me, too perky for a slave. It did give me Darth Maul though :D

I have to say, one of my favorite, very Indy moments in KOTCS was the sand pit and the snake "rope" :lol. I'm a HUGE arachnophobic so Indy's fear of snakes is very relatable to me and his panicking was pretty much how I'd react if someone had to put a spider on me for something.

I actually agree with this. Especially when she first walked out of the tent. :google

My favorite part of the movie. The only part mind you that reminded me that I was in fact watching Indy.

I'm not making any "excuses" at all, only pointing out that you obviously have selective standards with these movies. It's ALL far-fetched.

Yup, like I said before, had she been in Crusade and we could have seen some change take place with the character to transist her from Raiders to Crystal, it would've worked, but I walked in hoping/expecting the same Indy-Marion relationship, but neither were fully their characters as established in Raiders, so that aspect was minimal.

I was also disappointed that Oxley was not revealed to be Abner afterall... especially since it now seems very odd that Mutt would care about the guy that much otherwise.

Same here... TPM is still hard for me to watch, even as a Die Hard SW fan. Anakin looked like a pretty healthy happy little boy, NOT a slave. And all the political scheming and Gungans... :banghead But as you said, at least it had Darth Maul, the saving grace of the film. Even though he only had one line.

I also loved the snake rope scene, hilarious. I am terrified of spiders, so I can relate as well.... I would have crapped my pants if I was covered in spiders like that scene in Raiders. :google

I never understand these comments. I love analyzing and dissecting any story. Doesn't matter if it's low brow art or high brow, comic books or Shakespeare, I don't discriminate, it's all the same to me. I very much enjoy breaking apart narratives and figuring out why they work or don't work.

That's cool. I just don't really see what there is to break down here. People are acting like nothing ridiculous ever happend in an Indiana Jones movie before.

There is a difference. Ghosts and gods are one thing. Aliens and Area 51 are another. I mean come on.

You are a Navy man. Surely you know the difference between a freefall and a nuclear explosion. :lol

Well, as I said in another thread... Nukes in the 50's are a far stretch from Nukes currently. They were not as strong at all and were survivable if you were in a lead lined facility. And also.. refrigerators were much sturdier then and they closed securely. So I can see him surviving the initial blast within, as long as he was decontaminated immediately after.. which he was.

But the flying through the air in the fridge, I can see how that was a bit much... but still fit the Indy implausibility bill for me... i.e.. falling out of a plane and softly bumping the ground in your raft. :lol

And of course how could I forget the two pieces of glue that without them, the PT would've been nothing, Ewan McGreggor and Ian McDiarmid, they always brought their A game and I think that why was ROTS worked with even people dissappointed entirely with TPM and AOTC, because those 2 were pretty focal parts of that movie.

Back to Indy, since it's my only taste of the 50's, did anyone else think of Back to the Future during the brawl in the cafe with Mutt and Indy. "Hey Biff, what the hell is that!" :lol

regular ridiculous? Yes.....Massive overload of CG Prarie Dog/CG Monkey ridiculous? No
