Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''
It is coming.
It is coming.
With the KOTCS figure due in Q1 2010 they must be well into production on it by now and would have to take a significant hit on the costs if they were to cancel it. I would think (hope) it is going to be released.
What would be the bigger hit? Stopping mid production? Or paying for the full run and having a warehouse full of a figure that's not selling?
It's possible that the amount of figures that would sell might cover the production costs. It's the profit margin that would be most affected.
Didn't they state with Gandalf that there was usually a minimum of 3,000 needed to break even? Not sure if that's character specific, but it sure seems like an awful lot is riding on sales to recoup production costs.
Jeez, that's a lot. They're only making 1850 Old Indy's and 600 fridges! I guess the re-use of the outfit patterns from Adventure Indy helps to keep development costs down though.
Again, I'm not sure if that breakdown was specific to Gandalf, but if you look at that and compare it with KOTCS Indy, even scaled down, that's a lot of fridges they're gonna need to push.

In case the carbonite freezing chamber peters out!
Seriously, I spoke with a rep at SS and they said that since a pre-order was taken for KotCS Indy he WILL be produced.
No, I didn't drill them. I just asked if they were going forward with this particular figure due to the pre-order and she said "yes".

Sideshow doesn't seem interested in the 1/6 Indy line, even from the beginning (based on poor characters selection and lack of features / accessories). It would be easier at this point for Sideshow to just give the license to Hot Toys and let them have a swing at it. Sideshow would stop losing money, Hot Toys would make lots of money, we would finally get the figures we want, and everyone would be happy.
If they're mid production, the molds are already done and paid for, so the major expense has already been laid out. Unless Sideshow thinks they're going to sell 0 units, KOTCS Indy will be released to at least recoup some of that cost.
No, that would be a bigger fail for HotToys, I just don't think the sales would be there at $180 a pop w/LFL licensing) and an even bigger fail for Indy fans (because the line would end after 3 figures - 2 being Indy variants).
