Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

With the KOTCS figure due in Q1 2010 they must be well into production on it by now and would have to take a significant hit on the costs if they were to cancel it. I would think (hope) it is going to be released.

What would be the bigger hit? Stopping mid production? Or paying for the full run and having a warehouse full of a figure that's not selling?

If they're mid production, the molds are already done and paid for, so the major expense has already been laid out. Unless Sideshow thinks they're going to sell 0 units, KOTCS Indy will be released to at least recoup some of that cost.

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

It's possible that the amount of figures that would sell might cover the production costs. It's the profit margin that would be most affected.

Didn't they state with Gandalf that there was usually a minimum of 3,000 needed to break even? Not sure if that's character specific, but it sure seems like an awful lot is riding on sales to recoup production costs.

Jeez, that's a lot. They're only making 1850 Old Indy's and 600 fridges! I guess the re-use of the outfit patterns from Adventure Indy helps to keep development costs down though.

Again, I'm not sure if that breakdown was specific to Gandalf, but if you look at that and compare it with KOTCS Indy, even scaled down, that's a lot of fridges they're gonna need to push. :lol

In case the carbonite freezing chamber peters out! ;)

Seriously, I spoke with a rep at SS and they said that since a pre-order was taken for KotCS Indy he WILL be produced.

That's interesting, was that a recent conversation and did you drill them on the future of the line??

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

No, I didn't drill them. I just asked if they were going forward with this particular figure due to the pre-order and she said "yes".

Yeah, you might find that's character - or at least LOTR - specific. They had to create a lot of parts/fabrics/etc completely from scratch for that particular line, and I remember seeing something about how that made LOTR their most expensive line, especially from an R&D point, to produce. With old Indy there shouldn't be too much - the costume is essentially already patterned and materials sourced, and the fridge is pretty light on details needing sculpting - I wouldn't be surprised if it was built digitally and the prototype spat out by a rapid-prototyping machine.

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

They should get the muscular body from HT for ToD Indy, use a Hobbit body for Short Round and sell them together in a two pack. Instant $ellout!

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

Sideshow doesn't seem interested in the 1/6 Indy line, even from the beginning (based on poor characters selection and lack of features / accessories). It would be easier at this point for Sideshow to just give the license to Hot Toys and let them have a swing at it. Sideshow would stop losing money, Hot Toys would make lots of money, we would finally get the figures we want, and everyone would be happy.

No, that would be a bigger fail for HotToys, I just don't think the sales would be there at $180 a pop w/LFL licensing) and an even bigger fail for Indy fans (because the line would end after 3 figures - 2 being Indy variants).

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

LAME!!! I was really digging the Indy line. BUt, they really managed to jack it up. No Sallah, Mola Ram, or German Officers. Hell even the German Mechanic from Raiders would have sold more that Belloq or german Indy.

Oh well, helps me save money for StarWars and Joes I guess.

One thing people seem to haven't noticed; It's the same as "Raiders" Indy with a new head and a few new accessories. Production costs will be lower than most of the other figures in the line. They more than likely won't cancel it, because they might be able to recoup the loss from some of the sales duds in the line.

I wouldn't care. I just want ONE definitive ROTLA Indy figure. And the floppy body and crap production paint prevents the SSC figure from achieving that label.

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

And everyone was saying the SS Indy was going to be better than the Toys McCoy Indy. Not saying that TM is perfect, just doesn't have the issues the SS one does.
