To the left of the frame is a guy yelling, "Hey, Biff!! In about twelve years, the guy behind you is going to appear as the villain in the most successful movie of all time!"

Don't forget "Dead Calm" and "The Phantom".

What concerns me about Shia/greaser is not that his look is inappropriate, it's just something about that style of the period... I've never seen the greaser thing portrayed in any way that wasn't cheesy as heck.
It may seem cheesy to you, but it is accurate nonetheless. I suspect that your problem lies in the fact that your only exposure to the 50's "greaser" look comes from film portrayals, most of which are cheesy. But as one who actually knew a few greasers in the late 50's and early 60's, that is how they generally looked.

I can see how the still shots could make it difficult to tell whether the portrayal will be realistic or cheesy, especially for someone without any personal experience from that era, but for my money it looks very good, and almost too much like the guy who lived across the street when I was a wee lad.

You guys are all too young to remember Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps, aren't you?

Be-bop-a-lula, baby.
Not all of us, Bear. ;)

Wow dekadentdave?! What's up with all the "hating on" Harrison Ford? It is my own personal opinion that Harrison Ford is one of the greatest actors of our time. He is my all-time favorite actor. I grew up watching him portray two of my favorite iconic movie characters...Han Solo and Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford will always BE those characters to me in my mind. You cannot replace Harrison Ford with David Duchovny, just because Ford has naturally aged to 65 years-old now?! He IS Indiana Jones. As was said earlier in this thread, Duchovny IS Fox Mulder. I know he will always be known as that character for the rest of his life. Just as Harrison Ford will be known as Han Solo AND Indiana Jones. Not a bad claim to fame, to be recognized as not only one, but two of the most beloved characters in cinema history.

As for Alec Baldwin being a better Jack Ryan? What, are you freakin' kidding me? Alec Baldwin has the tendency to just plain, "overact" in my book. Sure I like him in some movies, but I am glad that they chose Harrison Ford to portray Jack Ryan. I even liked Ben Affleck as the younger Jack Ryan in "Sum Of All Fears" better than I liked Baldwin as Ryan in "The Hunt For Red October".

I have always had a deep admiration and respect for Harrison Ford and his acting skills. Just because he has aged, doesn't mean he can't "pull off" being Indy again in the fourth movie! He is that character, and it would be absolute heresy to replace him with a yonger, less-known actor. I think Harrison Ford has done an incredible job in movies following "Raiders Of The Lost Ark". "Blade Runner". One of the most influential and most underappreciated movies. It's only now...over 25 years later it is respected as one of Ford's and director Ridley Scott's best films. He was nominated for Best Actor for "Witness", and should have won! He is still in incredible physical shape for his age. God, I hope I'm even half that fit when I hit 65!

I will go into the new Indy movie next summer with an open mind and a willingness to just have fun and enjoy seeing my all-time favorite actor and movie character back on the big screen! :D I think Shai Lebouf is becoming a fine young actor. Look what Mark Wahlberg has done. He went from "Marky Mark" to a fine actor. I'm giving Shai a chance, just like I did with Wahlberg.

As for the whole Shai Lebouf "greaser" look...so what? I am putting my trust with one of the most masterful directors living today to deliver...and he always has for me in every movie...Steven Spielberg. I recall another movie with "greasers" in it I really enjoyed and thought realistically portrayed them. Anyone out there remember "The Outsiders"? Great movie, directed by George Lucas's old personal friend, Francis Ford Coppola. I have the "complete novel" extended edition of that movie on DVD. I remember reading the book about the struggles between the "greaser" and "sochia" classes in Oklahoma by S.E. Hinton in elementary school, and enjoyed seeing it come to life on the big screen.

I'm very happy to see Indy finally coming back after being gone since The Last Crusade came out in the summer of 1989! I'm sad to hear that Spielberg couldn't talk Sean Connery out of retirement because in his words from a recent interview, "I'm just having too much fun". But I know I will still enjoy the movie, because I am going in with a lifetime of loving the character, and an open mind ready to have fun and enjoy it!

When I saw that first new picture of Ford sitting there in the Indy gear...my heart raced...and a big grin came up on my face! :D

Indy is back! Summer 2008 can't come soon enough for me!!!!

Mikey, did you ever read me post "I hate Harrison Ford?" No you didn't. So don't make assumptions. Harrison happens to be one of my favorite actors of all time but this film is a train wreck in the making.

The Hunt For Red October was the best Jack Ryan/Tom Clancy film period. Patriot Games was a snore fest and Clear and Present Danger wasn't much better. Alec Baldwin was more Jack Ryan as he was in the books than Harrison.

Like I said, I was all for Indy 4 back in the 90's but this is just an embarrassment. I know we all age but there comes a point where you just have to hang up the hat which is what Ford should have done. I don't want to see Geriatric Jones and the Phantom Menace.

Whatever dave. You can't change my mind, and I can't change yours. Everyone has their own personal opinion and is entitled to it. At the end of the day....the movie will only really matter to only one person...yourself. It doesn't really matter what anyone else says. Each person judges it for themselves, just like everything else in life. We all have the freedom, at least in this country, to form our own personal opinons and beliefs. You stand by yours, I stand my mine. "Nuff said"! :D

Then don't jump to conclusions next time and take someone elses opinions out of context.

I love Harrison and I love the Indy movies but if I want to watch Old Indy I'd watch an episode of the Young Cindy Chronicles with Indy as the 80-year-old museum caretaker. Ironically, we're not too far off now.

How do you want to remember your heroes? Old and long in the tooth or young and kicking ass? That's how I want to remember my heroes, not with one foot in the grave.

Okay man...chill out dave. Sorry man. Just because he's aged doesn't mean he'll turn in a "geriatric" performance. Yeah, I'll always remember Indy as young, brash, smart, inventive, etc. But, I am also at the same time taking Harrison Ford's performance as an aging Indy in the context of Indy as a whole. Going from young and brash, to older and wiser where he is now. Again, just my opinion. I'm not judging this movie before I even see it. I've done that with other movies in the past, and then ended up really enjoying them. I went into Live Free Or Die Hard recently with an open mind and I really enjoyed it. Bruce Willis did an incredible job in that, and he's only about 10 years younger than Harrison Ford.

Thanks Irish but I am usually pretty dead-on in my pre-judgment of a movie before I see it and can usually tell if I AM going to like it or not. So far, I don't like what I see. That's not to say this won't be a huge hit or that people will still enjoy it. Some people actually even liked The Phantom Menace. :lol

The thing that bugs me most about Ford right now is his spastic performance when he pretends to be beaten up -- just watch the end of Firewall after he kills Bellamy. I hope Spielberg backs him off this bit of overacting, especially when Indy usually gets "beaten-up" a lot.

If you ask me, Ford transforms into an entirely different actor when he's in character as Indy. I love the guy, but he's usually pretty one-note (even as Han Solo). But the INDY flicks (and Spielberg) really bring out the best in him. And since Spielberg is at the peak of his game right now (particularly in directing actors) I don't see why this one will be any different.

Um... well Stand By Me and Shawshank Redemption, to name a few, were really good movies that featured "the greaser thing".

I don't know why so many people are hating on the new Indy. I think it looks great and will love standing next to Batty and Irish, watching all the crow being eaten in this place (though I suspect a few in here are determined to hate it no matter how it turns out).
