Hee. Alright, I "finished" painting my Tom head so I went to take pics (which always show me my mistakes and the things I need to touch up like places in the curly hair I missed). What fun to paint!

I see I need to paint his hair darker. The dark haired pics is how it looks to me. The reddish hair is how it actually is apparently. Blah! Anyways, I'm pretty jazzed about how I did on the face so forgive my giddy pictures here. This thing just looks amazing! (Doing this made me start repainting my Pertwee).

Just waiting on a BillyB costume to replace the one I had sent Howes for a photo shoot and never sent back. :banghead

You've done a fantastic job painting him. I can really see Tom there. It's also nice that you have him wrapped in his grandmother's crotched shawl to keep warm until the clothes arrive...:D

Heh heh. You said "crotch". :angelsmil

Man, you (and Vikki) are just friggin' brutal over that crappy scarf I got years ago (laugh)! You just both wish your Tom had a shawl!
"It was a bad call Ripley. A bad call!"

It's just a placeholder till I get his real one from Inked Dalek once he gets done casting his 5,000 Tom heads and AFTER he makes one for himself!
(his personal one got swiped by Howes, too!) :)

WST, very nice. Masterful work. Hey, Tom's gotta get cold on some of his adventures, s shawl is a great idea. May I suggest a babooshka

Reinhardt, I would post images but i hate showing incomplete work. It looks shabby. It's like showing a film while it's rough cut.

On to the update:
-Blush tones added. Intend to go & add some more subtle shading & mottling to the skin.
-Hope to get more done tonight & get some of these complete by the end of the week (hopefully)

Nice job Rick, your painting is continuing to improve and having such a great sculpt to work on can only help inspire you.

Daily update
-blush areas added, just clear coated. Later tonight, will begin skin mottling
-then onto hair, which generally goes quickly.
-then the eyes

Soon, very soon. Did I mention how much I love this sculpt?

WTS, just had another look at your Tom. It really is dead on. Doesn't it feel good to have a real Tom in the collection.

I still got to do up the Troughton sometime. Ok, once I'm done the Toms & Z's Winchesters. That cat sculpts faster than I can paint.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update part 2
-mottling added as well as darker patches in the same spots as in reference pix. OCD I know. Clear coat tomorrow, then on to hair then eyes.
-killed 2 cans of clear coat already

Rick Beautiful work man I am really digging these paint jobs.

Please tell me with all those cans of clear you have the window cracked.
Not sure if the smell stays in the house for days or just the nostrils.
Really can't wait to see your finished work Joey. But like all fine things the wait is worth it.

That other head you wanted is on the way , really want to see your magic on this one as well.

Thanks lot ID, I hope to do it justice.

Ubiquitous update:
picking detail, teeth blocking in eyes. Had to stop, started shakin hardcore.

Now not sure if I want to admit this, but my Dad saw all the Who heads & has begun calling me Re-Tardis. Not pc, but hey, the guy likes to shoot from the hip.

Intend to get much more done tomorrow evening. Hate just chipping away, feels unproductive & I can't abide wasting time. It's to important to me.

Hey re-Tardis'!

Here's some 1:6 classic UNIT ID's I whipped up in photo shop if anyone would like to use. I included bigger copes in case anyone wanted to re-size them slightly.
-Rick :)

Rick, those are fantastic. Not to be confused with Eunuch.

I got a feeling Re-Tardis is gonna stick. Been called worse, mind you, I kinda like it .

Really close to getting the hat versions done. Hopefully next few days.

Update from the painting Re-Tardis:
-Sadly none done last night. To much going on with family stuff. AND another woman. Good news though, this one is intelligent, articulate, well educated AND beautiful. The kind of beauty that runs deeper than the surface. Now get this. She also wants to learn to paint 1/6?!
-Now, it she can get past my love for Doctor Who (in a totally plutonic way)

Update

Blocked the hair in on 1 hatted version, then the tremors set in hard. Dropped the damn brush. Hope to get at least 1 blocked in per night. Then dry brushing & shading.

I usually spend as much time on the hair as I do the skin tones.

Can't wait to see it man!!! You are putting a serious amount of work into this. Very impressive so far to read what you are doing.

Reinhardt,
I just try to keep chugging away at them. My older niece says I may have OCD. I really want to make any paint up look as good as I can. I just don't know if these tremors will worsen or stop. If it gets worse I probably won't be able to paint, so I look at each piece as potentially my last.

I want a client to be able to present the complete build with confidence.

Did bury a screw driver in my thumb at work last week. Good think we have bones, kept if from going through any further.

More updates tomorrow.

You guessed it, update
-got the hair blocked in on all hatted versions. Just a little detailed work around the edges to do, then on to highlights & shading.

-would have more done but headache of kaiju proportions.

-just keep chipping away.

It's great to hear how dedicated you are to these heads Joey and I'm sure it'll show in the end product but if your headache bothers you too much don't be afraid to take a break from the painting, I'll understand and I'm sure everyone else will.

That being said GET BACK TO WORK! ( Joking! )
