SS's Mark II is not chrome.

To be honest, I'm just thrilled at being able to get this piece.

No one expected this to be a SS exclusive and I thought I had missed out.

i had initially placed an order at my LCS only to be told they would refund me as SS said they were not giving them any Mk 2 busts :monkey2

I have just recieved my SS Iron Man Mk II bust and I must sayit looks great. What I can tell you is that the MK II it is much lighter than the MkIII. Considerably lighter!! SS may have altered the manufacturing process as to avoid the "flaking" issue. But from the box just perfect.

As for the paint finish itself, I interpret the finish to be a polished metal alloy that this achieves, not chrome as so many of you appear to favour. It appears liqiud almost consistant to mercury very nice, if you were inclined you might try to buff the finish with an automotive polish but I would venture very carefully with that idea.

In addressing the flaking issue to the underside of the bust (which I now notice on my MkIII to be considerable to severe) SS have chosen to paint it matt black. This compliments the silver very nicely, but on close inspection there is the appearance of some over spray to the perimeter of the bust. This appears worse than it is due to lighting constriants, shadowing and reflexions, I believe once it is mounted in the appropriate display case it will not be an issue.

As for the discussed reprocessing of returned Mk III, this is clearly not possible as the rivet holes are to geometric to the lines of the bust itself. Any alterations to the original would have had to be done by hand which at close inspection would be extremely difficult to near impossible to do with such accurracy as that displayed on this piece.

The base decal has also been corrected, or was correct at the time of manufacturing. That issue may have arrived through the example being displayed dispatched through a different shipment protocol... which did not recieve the appropriate QC scrutiny. This one that came through the US warehouse has a brand new (no rehash) Mk II decal on the base.

Overall, this is an impressive piece and one that I am happy to say I was able to purchase at such a limited number 74/100. I look forward to it standing beside my MK III and the 1:2 maquette in the near future.

(Side note: a certificate of authenticity would have completed this item)

This is worth repaint. Whoever repaint this bust, did a phenominal job. Look at all the rivets on that bust.

Yes Greatwall, I get your point. When I stated that it would be near impossible to produce the rivets on the item I forgot to exclude those wonderful customisers out there.

But check out the design of the SS MK II release: circular impressions to the drill bit style you present.

That being said 1 piece v's 100 do the maths, that custom image you present as an example of the talents of artists among us did I understand equate to a total value of the piece to be around $1200 dollars. Different strokes for different folks, the original will still appreciate over time being only 100 ES.

Custom work is only as valuable as someone is willing to pay, knock off's are just that, no amount of artistry will increase it's value. Give me the original ever time.

Agreed. I actually like sideshow's better. I guess the basic draw for me is that this piece just like the Mark III was supposed to have come from the actual molds they used in the movie.

For me, that's priceless. There are many talented artists and the custom is awesome but i just want a piece of SWS legacy :D

I got my bust a couple days ago. The box felt as light as a feather. I almost thought it was empty. I don't have pictures yet because I have not taken it out of the box but will as soon as I find a good spot for it. I have edition number 007/100. I'll be back in a couple days with some pictures.

Sounds quality...

It shows me quality.. I prefer a sturdy sculpt to a cheap feeling eggshell..

I'll happily pay extra shipping to ensure a quality product..

I don't see how weight makes a sturdy sculpt. NECA has some heavy statues for example. And lead items are heavy but easily damaged. Carbon fiber is extra sturdy. But that would be too light and "cheap" for you?

Assuming this bust weighs about 29 pounds, how much heavier would you like it to be?

How many times do we have to go around and around about this, Bodie?....:lol

Venom is hollow. The base may be solid, but the sculpt is hollow. It's still a phenomenal piece, but it's hollow.

bodie is right....the IMs QC has been ????....I am on my 2nd mark III...so far so good...but how long will it last...for this kind of money the ????ing thing should be near perfect....my first one looked like it was painted by a ????ing blind man...and god forbid you fart near it...the paint falls off...FAIL!
