Progress on the Ree-Yees has been painfully slow. As I expected, getting a decent casting of this head has been a nightmare. I've had to trash so many that I'm starting to have a pile that looks like some kind of mass graveyard back on his planet. :lol The ears were such a consistent problem that I've had to resort to casting them separately and then just gluing them on. Going to do something similar with the missing pair of antennae too.

Anyway, I used one of the better reject castings to start figuring out a paint scheme (in order to change things up from just pouring resin over and over again). Below is painting trial #1. Nothing fancy, and very little detailing (this is just a testing phase); but I came up with a 3-color layering pattern for the flesh tone that I think will work pretty decently.

It's taking forever, but I'm getting closer to figuring out how to make this all work (I hope ) for a few sets of head & hands. And then I can move on to more nightmares with making the costume. :slap

That's looking freakin' superb.:clap Ree Yees getting the five star treatment.:love

I recently noticed a pic in the making of ROTJ book where it was clear they made at least three full Ree Yees heads (I assume they were intended to be Ackbar's "officers" before they switched to the crustacean-look Ackbar we know) so having many Ree Yees heads laying around is probably accurate to what they had going back in 1983.:dunno Ree Yeezy as Kanye might say.:lol

Wow! I didn't know they'd made more than one Ree-Yees mask. I guess your assumption about the abandoned Mon Calamari intentions makes sense, but now I'm also wondering if more than one mask/prop made it on screen. It sure would explain some of the differences in certain Ree-Yees reference photos that I had assumed were due entirely to the animatronics functionality.

And yeah, now the pile of discarded head castings at least has a bit of charm/novelty to it. :lol Thanks for that bit of behind-the-scenes info. :hi5:

Finally have an update on my Amanaman! I 3-D printed parts for articulation and happy to report it works pretty well! Ignore the Z-axis towards the camera because that can be trimmed off; but one peg will go into the body and the other peg into the arm to complete a hinge and two pivot joints in the shoulder and arm. Next step should be casting once I have more resin and silicone and then I can figure out the rest of the articulation from there! 0.jpeg0-1.jpeg0-2.jpeg

Wow. Let's just rename this guy Sidecagoda or Cagodashow and wait for the PO.:lol He's bringing the top quality 1/6 SW goods where Sideshow has just faded away.:clap

Thanks everyone for the support and the kind words! You guys rock!!

Well OMG.... there it is.... Amanaman!!! Glorious Amanaman!!! All hail... Amanaman!!!

This is an epic build.

Feet look great too.

Thank you! The feet were challenging with limited reference pics so I hope I did well. I can’t wait to get him casted so I can paint him up!

This is probably the best pic I have of the feet. This is a somewhat rarer pic of Amanaman that also shows the staff pretty well.

I also came across some other pics of his staff and "skeleton trophy" thing if you need them, though the skeleton could likely be achieved with just some paint on a 1/6 skeleton off of ebay rather than trying to sculpt it. I'm also not 100% certain that skeleton thing is seen onscreen - the vintage fig didn't have it, though the later hasbro one did.

Love these shots. Will be referring back to these and the others you’ve posted when “Amanaman-time” comes ;)

I decided to start working on the costume for Ree-Yees. Got farther than I expected to, but still needs plenty of adjustments and a few details (kneepads, belt accent, fasteners, etc.). This is still the same messed-up head with simple paint job from before. And the hands seen here are also very messed up from a bad first mold (still need to do a second one). I'll paint up a better head and pair of hands before my next update, but at least this finally shows more of what the figure will end up looking like. And I'm glad to have something else to do with the cups that came with the Sideshow R2-D2. :lol
