You should probably tell the US military they're in trouble since they threw out their old hand-to-hand training and now use a MMA and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu based course. The Russian military has used ***** for a long time.

Or are you talking about medieval Europe? Some submissions would be hard to apply while the opponent is wearing a full suit of steel armor...
