Dont get me wrong, I love Terminator, Robocop ect ect...but havent these franchises done their time yet? I mean with all the new technology available these days and a growing global population. Why does hollywood always push the same old movies to remake. Were the 80's and 90's the only decades with bright ideas for sci-fi movies?
Their has yet to be an iconic sci-fi film made since the 90's that has the same "hold" on the public like Terminator. I was SURE when I saw T3 in theaters years ago that it would be the LAST Terminator made. But here we go again, 6 years later...with ANOTHER Terminator. When will it end!...when will some young new mind imagine a new form of robot/alien idea for hollywood??? Im desperate for something NEW!

Will there be robots in James Cameron's Avatar?

New robots? Hmm, there is Cameron from TSCC and I'm quite partial to Sonny from I, Robot.

this is hollywood we're talking about. originality comes only once every ten years in that town. and no matter how great you were, you work there long enough, and you'll turn into a hack. just ask spielberg.

but dont worry, kick ass sci-fi actions are coming. the japanese has been doing it for so long, and now it's the next trend hollywood is ushering in. spidey is producing & starring in robotech. his pal leo is producing live action akira. neo is doing cowboy bebop. and cameron has been dying to do battle angle alita.

and i forgot to mention that spielberg is also producing a live action ghost in the shell.

some of those movies have cool robots in them. of course, with hollywood doing them, the designs will most likely be the cluttered overdesigned versions of the originals, much like transformers.

Yeah, Follywood blows when it comes to originality these days :monkey4

this meaning crappy remakes. yeah, it kinda sucks that there are no good horror movies( off topic i know, just using horror as example ) the type that scare the poop out of you and give you knightmares for a couple of days . and not just speaking of horror, sci-fi, ect...we have gotten great movies like 300 then we get pure trash ( imo anyway ) like ¿the spirit? wtf????

I think the Matrix will prove to have the same appeal, in the long run.

Ya, the matrix I guess you can say might go that route. I enjoyed all 3 movies actually. I robot was "OK"...but I honestly dont think it will be comparible to Terminator in any form of a following. But even in terms of alien movies....nothing has been made. What did we get latley?..."The day the earth stood still"...ANOTHER remake and one of the worst movies I have ever seen!

-War of the worlds
-AVP
-AVPR
-Freddy Vs jason
-the one where jason is in space!....what the HELL was that!

..........ect...........ALL GARBAGE FILMS.

I think im going to get into the film business and start making some good movies if no one else will.

same here. i was disappointed that there was hardly any merchandise from it.
aside from Will Smith being a futuristic shoe salesman, it was good scifi. and a Sonny figure with light-up features would be amazing.

you won't.
<:0( frowny clown.

IMO if it ain't broken don't fix it, if these films are as you say "from the 80's and 90's" then why are so many younger fans taking to past films? Its because originality has become extinct in Tinsletown.

You could say the same thing about the Bond films that soon will be entering into its 6th decade. I love the Bond films the same way I do Terminator films.

I say keep making them.

Also remember it has been proven that T3 was just a phantasm. It never actually happened. :(

Ya, the whole robo chick thing killed it for me from the start in T3. Their better not be any robot women in salvation or im walking out of the theater.

I would not mind a Terminator woman, if they got an Actress who looked like this

You should check out a little art house indie film made a couple of years ago called "The Transformers." ;) While based on a decades old concept, giant transforming robots are just now entering mainstream live-action cinema and certainly have captured the excitement of the public.
