I'd say that's a yes. :)

Well, I thought about Duke, and though he looks like an "actual" military troop, his outfit is different enough that I don't think he looks like any other figure already produced without being kit-bashed. Plus, even if he did, he is the de facto leader of the Joes and would need to be produced anyway. On the other hand, Torpedo looks like a very typical amphibious Navy Seal guy. I'm sure there are figures that look very similar, and he isn't essential enough to the Joe team that he has to be made.

I think if they get to a point where a Cobra Eel is made, we'll definitely see a torpedo.

I see where you're coming from, and although I agree with you in principle I'm not sure it holds true for Torpedo. Depends on what route Sideshow takes it. Are they going to want to clearly represent the "fighting for freedom, whenever there's trouble over land and sea and air" aspect of GI Joe? They might want to throw in at least one token pilot type (probably Wild Bill) and Navy guy, and while they might be content with Shipwreck only they might also want a token diver... and even though some versions of Shipwreck figures had dive gear he wasn't exactly known for it.

Personally I think environmental specialists like Torpedo and, to give another example, Snow Job are a lot more likely than others being mentioned.

That said, who'd be more interesting? Torpedo? Or Deep Six? Torpedo would look great as a diver, but I think Deep Six would be more visually appealing as far as overall suit/accessories.

I think we will get a Wild Bill for sure. He is a pretty iconic Joe with the hat, mustache, and sunglasses. As is Snow Job, with his red hair and beard. Torpedo just looks like some frogman guy.

Wetsuit looks a lot more distinctive than Torpedo, if they want a diver. Deep Six would, I think, be a bit much for Sideshow, but who knows?

If were talking about v1 Deep Six then I vote Torpedo. V2 Deep Six? That kinda makes the decision a little harder for me.

I was always kinda partial to Wet-Suit as well.

Completely forgot about him. :( Yeah, the yellow helmet and aqua/white colored wetsuit would make him stand out on the shelf. Though, we'd most likely be getting two headsculpts if they went that route. Any other rendition of Wetsuit I wouldn't buy though.

Wasn't that the black suit with yellow helmet and highlights? :monkey4

V1 was orange helmet and greenish suit. V2 was all grey I think. V3 was the black suit with bright yellow helmet.

EDIT: Yup.

If I had to choose, I'd say Version 1 looks the most distinct and would look the best displayed with the rest of the Joes. Version 2, while more "militaristic" is a bit yawny. Version three... :monkey4

Yeah, v1 is the most distinct, and I'd definitely have no problem with that color scheme as long is was a bit more subdued, and not quite so neon.

I imagine if SS does do him it'll probably end up being closer to v2 than v1, since they seem to be trying for a classic look, but also mixing it with a bit of a "realistic" modern look.

I don't know, I have a feeling we won't see too many '86 Joes. Beach Head is obviously coming, and maybe Serpentor, Dr. Mindbender and Vipers (and possibly BATs), but I suspect that if there's a pre-'86 equivalent to someone like Wet-Suit (i.e. Torpedo) we're more likely to see the earlier one.

I mean, we only JUST got a 25th style Wetsuit, and it was more of an afterthought than anything (not to mention a pretty crappy reuse of existing parts). But who knows, if this line takes off Star Wars-style we could see Leatherneck, Wet-Suit, Low Light, Lifeline, etc. There were some damn good '86 Joes.

Torpedo may look like a boring diver guy, but there's ways of making him a little more interesting (the 25th version was pretty good that way) and if the Sideshow Joe roster is going to have diver, it'll probably be Torps.

Good call. SSC already gave a nod to the original Joes with Duke's facial scar. I wouldn't be surprised if they made sure we had a sailor/diver, marine, and pilot in the next year or two. I doubt we'll see an astronaut though (for obvious reasons.)

For the most part, I think you are right because the pre-86 characters are just better--they look better, they were in better comics, and they were in the better cartoons. But I think the folks at Hasbro must have just disliked post-85 characters, because we only got a stray figure from this period here or there with the 25th anniversary line (and there were plenty of chances). Who knows if the folks at Sideshow will feel the same?
