Cumberbatch looks like he wants to rips kirks head off lol I wonder if Cumberbatch is a villain from the beginning, and only after they think they've stopped him does he gain his true power, hence him coming back for vengeance.

I think that getting captured was all part of his plan. Like in The Dark Knight. And The Avengers. And Skyfall.

Well it COULD be an airlock still, but people are going nuts everywhere about the image on it. It's a reflection of BC's back. Look at the lights on the floor and ceiling - they match. The image on his arm is a reflection too, but what of?

OH - and there WAS a crewman named Harrison on TOS. He appeared in quite a few episodes, though only one had him named. Though that's likely an alias. Most people seem to agree that Starfleet Intelligence is somehow involved - maybe he's a plant?

Garth seems less likely now, but I'm now wondering if he's Flint from Requiem for Methuselah - an immortal. He could also presumably be Jack the Ripper (based solely on TOS villains, of course).

Most of the people that see this flick will probably have never seen TOS and wouldn't care less if it were Gary Mitchell or whoever else.

All this secrecy, just for a new character named John Harrison? No, I think they have something up their sleeves. The reason they haven't revealed/confirmed Cumberbatch's character is that it is a plot point they don't want to spoil. Seeing him referred to as Harrison really convinces me of that. I think there is more to his name and/or background that they are keeping secret.

True, though the real genius of Star Trek 09 was how the team payed so much attention to the existing fan base. They didn't just "Oh, throw all that history out the window," they found a way to make the reboot work without losing all the existing fans. Sure, there are things I don't like about it (mainly production design, I hate the look of the iEnterprise, both exterior and interior, and especially those hideous phasers), but the story checks out for both fans and non-fans.

Why spend so much time catering to fans only to completely ignore them? Doesn't make a lot of sense marketing-wise. Sure, the movie will be a success regardless, but the post-release stuff (DVDs, T-shirts, action figures, etc etc) are mostly fan bought, and those proceeds would go waaaaay down.

Since this is essentially a new continuity, I don't see what's so cool about it being an old character anyway. It's not like seeing Montalban come back as Kahn in Trek II.

People are trying to guess because production is being coy, and they are going to guess based on things that are familiar.

Same. The refit and Enterprise A looked much cooler IMO. I also preferred the continuous phaser beam of old.

Thats why the've probably swapped Mitchell for Harrison, its the same result just a different formula that gets them to that point. Having Carol Marcus in this also doesn't mean that she and Kirk are going to get together either, may be her and Spock will be an item
