From Ain't it Cool News:
(Left to right) Zachary Quinto is Spock, Benedict Cumberbatch is John Harrison and Chris Pine is Kirk in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions.

In "Space Seed," Harrison was nearly suffocated to death on the Enterprise bridge by unfrozen superman Khan Noonien Singh.

This reminds me of when we learned via press release that Marion Cotillard would be playing Miranda Tate in "The Dark Knight Rises."

It makes me think maybe one of Khan's genetic supermen (perhaps even Khan Noonien Singh Jr.) assumed Harrison's identity to infiltrate and cripple Starfleet.

The first nine minutes of "Star Trek: Into Darkness" hits cinemas Friday. The rest of it hits cinemas May 17.

Multiple reports from inside the conference reveal that Alice Eve will be playing the role of Dr. Carol Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness. Marcus is a character displayed in perhaps the most acclaimed Star Trek film to date Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and was previously portrayed by Bibi Besch.

On top of this, it's been revealed that Klingons will be making an appearance outside of the bonus features of Star Trek, with two confirmed to be taking off their helmets to reveal their appearance to look like the original series' appearance except with ridges. However, they will still contain their facial hair and piercings present in TOS.

carol marcus? that's not the character that mitchell fell in love with in TOS right? I'm not familiar with this character, what's her significance to the star trek time line?

Carol Marcus had a son with Kirk. She and their son David were in Star Trek 2:TWOK and are the leaders of the Genesis team.

I think the John Harrison is just a bait and switch name, i never like Carol Marcus, she's meant to be Kirk's ultimate love but never appeared out of all of the women in TOS

From the context of their discussion in TWOK he was seeing Carol before the five year mission.

Also consider David's age - he's in his mid to late 20's. TWOK takes places fifteen years after Space Seed. Kirk probably saw Carol before he even served on the Farragut.

And of course the timeline got skewed because of the events of the previous movie, and now Kirk's captain while never having gone to the Farragut (in fact, the Farragut was destroyed early in this timeline in Nero's attack). So it would make sense that he would have to meet her now. And as far as everyone saying Carol Marcus wasn't in Starfleet...how, exactly, do we know that? Oh, she hates them in TWOK, but that doesn't mean she wasn't in Starfleet and left when she was younger.

Carol Marcus was a civilian working on a Starfleet experiment in TWOK. There's no way of knowing if she had served in Starfleet earlier in her life but it's very possible. She may have decided to resign her commision when she realized she was going to have a child.

In the real world the military strongly encourages contractors to use people with prior service in the development of new systems. Genesis probably had a few former Starfleet Sciences people.

Another perk about seeing the Hobbit...this and the Superman trailer...and who knows what else...I bet trailers and the beginning of ST are at least 1/2 hour long...LOL...Woot!

I'm quite jealous lol The hobbit Imax gets the 9 minute preview, the superman trailer, the pacific rim trailer, and who knows what else you'll get to see.

back on topic, does the Carol character have an ties to the trek Villains like the other character Eve was rumored to be (name escapes me right now).

Carol had no ties to any other character besides James Kirk and their son David.

Spock recognises her when they watch the video of the Genesis Experiment and when she's brought aboard Enterprise she appears to be very familiar with Spock too, i think she recognised McCoy too when he beamed down to Regular 1 with Kirk.

I thought of Spockss recognition as indicating he was familiar with her work.

Bones on the other hand certainly knew of Kirk's relationship with her and it seems likely they probably met at some time.

But Carol didn't know any Trek foes before Khan invaded Regula One and that was the original question.

Yeah just pointing it out.......

I think though the line when Spock beams Kirk's party aboard the Enterprise was something like "You know Mr. Spock".

Though this is a different continuity and she might even be Spocks girl now :horror

Here's how I feel; this is Khan:

This is ONLY khan. Or Javier Bardem. What if Cumberbatch isn't the villian, but a henchmen. Would be brilliant and throw us all off the scent?
