As somebody who is very new to Star Trek, and is just going through the old series and movies now, I sincerely I hope I don't become so exhaustingly **** over the franchise. I enjoy the original Trek, and the new Trek, can't people just do that? :dunno

To be fair, the majority of original Trek fans love the new movie...

They went after Benico Del Toro first for Khan. But he turned it down.

They just cast someone who gave them what they wanted, regardless of race.

i think with the whole time travel thing in the previous movie, there are many different timelines. so maybe we are seeing a timeline where

Khan's race is different

:lol:lol:lol :slap Star Trek is quite far reaching but
are you out of your mind man?

I enjoyed it :)

Oh and dont listen to other people's opinions and take them to heart, especially mine as i love the AVP films but would rather watch a tap drip than watch Blade runner :wave

it could be a possibility, if you have a movie with warp drives, space battles, alien races, and time travel its not out of the realm of possibility that alternate timelines could exist. i thought this movie is a great follow-up to 09 movie so i was more than happy leaving the theater

It is an alternate timeline. But only from a certain point when Nero destroys the Kelvin with Kirks dad on board in the '09 film. That of course led to other things playing out differently than they would have in the original Star Trek Universe like the destruction of Vulcan. However none of this would have affected

Khan, since he was born way back in the 20th century. He would still be exactly as he was in the original Star Trek universe. Now obviously, even if Ricardo Montalban were still alive he'd be too old to play Khan again, but it would have ben preferable if they could have found an actor who at least in some way resembled and could act like Montalban - as they did with Spock and to a slightly lesser extent Kirk - OR cast Benedict Cumberbatch, but at least give an explanation as why he's so different

Sue me for thinking it matters somewhat. :dunno

Again, if you excuse it so easily, why not make Kirk a black man? Wouldn't affect the plot would it?

A Dev, it doesn't matter what you say, there will always be a counter opinion to yours. From what I gather you are a devoted Fan of True Star Trek (I hope I am not wrong in this assumption) . I am with you on every one of your issues with this new Trek. If these people cannot comprehend The essence of True Star Trek, Then Let them have their "in name only" Trek. Star Trek will stand the test of time and doubt this new one ( in name only ) will even be remembered in five years time.

I have no quams with this film, but it is not Star Trek. Without that name this film is just another B rated Sci-Fi adventure film that no one would be talking about.

p.s. I shudder to think what this Abrams clown will do to Star Wars....

:slap

Saw it Sunday yes it has a few HUGE plot holes but I'm not a huge Trek fan I've seen all the movies with Picard in them but I thought this movie was awesome thoroughly enjoyed it now if only Hot toys was able to get license not that it'd matter lol they wouldn't even see release.

I wouldn't call myself an obsessive fan actually. I'm just a guy who likes certain things to be consistent (like the distance between Earth and the Klingon homeworld) when it would be so easy to make them so. And I don't think this would hamper the film in any way like some seem to think.

Wow, movie sounds like a complete cluster ****.

Oh well, still have to make up my own mind.

But they gave SW to this guy.

EESH.

At least someone else is writing it.

You know, the first one had its inconsistencies but it still hit all of the right notes. I could forgive Spock exiling Kirk to the ice planet Hoth and having him stumble miraculously into Old Spock. This movie was like those kind of things happening. all. the. time.

It really isn't. It has some issues, sure, but to actually watch it... I have quite a few snooty film snob friends who still loved it. It's actually a very good summer movie. There are few movies, even classics, you can't dissect mercilessly if you want to.

I hope to god he ****s up Star Wars. If there's any franchise that's in desperate need of getting a good **** up, it's Star Wars. Pretty much any direction would be welcome at this point.

By the way, it's not. It's a great fun movie. Better then what the fanboys are *****ing about, and only has one flaw as far as i'm concerned.
You need to stop reading people's fanpoo opinions, and go see it yourself.

saw the movie today for the second time.

this is by far the best star trek series ever made. I hope J.J keeps making more movies and I am just pumped to see what he will do with star wars.

best movie of the summer right now hands down.
