I had to run the bathroom for the "wampa chase" of Kirk, but I'd already seen it online. I'm going to see the movie again anyway. :D

Did anyone else think the monster looked an awful lot like the Cloverfield beast? Not a dead ringer, but a close cousin...

Saw it, loved it.

First movie in years that had me elated when I left. (And I really needed SOMETHING to make me feel upbeat lately...)
I was SO prepared to hate it also. My finger was hovering over the red HATE IT button for about five minutes, before I forgot and just started having fun.

I liked everything about it. Why? Because there was so much that bordered on the ridiculous. I needed that. Any of these new movies, that take themselves SO SERIOUSLY, are starting to bore me. I needed some level of playfulness. This movie had it. Plus, it had Bones. Bones frikkin ruled! Spock was well played, Kirk worked way better than I had imagined he would, especially the scene at the Academy where he is looking at every pretty girl that goes by. Total Kirk action! Everyone was well handled, if in some pat and easy ways. Sulu's magic sword won me over totally. I was like, "WHUP! There it is!" I SO needed that. The Scotty parts were weird, as was his sidekick and that nasty monster, but what the hell...it was funny in that it didn't slow Kirk down much.

It was a really bizarre take, like an episode of Next Generation showing how future Spock's life goes awry, and boy does it! That's really all this is, Star Trek 11, with a 'let's just go back and redo it all again" vibe. Worked fine for me.

I still have classic Trek, TNG, all that, and now this. Just more stuff.

Totally enjoyed it. The "Had me at hello" moment for me was when Beastie Boys Sabotage takes the score over and I just lost it. Sabotage in a Star Trek movie! Now, that's entertainment!

Will they ever recapture the days of old? No. Will this at least be fun while it lasts? Sure.
And I want nice 12"ers of Kirk Spock and McCoy and a very nice Enterprise replica.

I hope more movies this summer are this fun. We need more FUN. Tired of angst and all the sturm and drang. Upbeat is good. More upbeat please! Thank you!

I'll be there for the next one for sure.

Yea, I'd go for 12" figures from Hot Toys in a heart beat. Funny thing is, they seem to have banked on the wrong movie...sort of. Wolverine is mediocre, and won't drive much interest in the figure on it's own. Lucky for them, there are enough Marvel fans that will buy it anyway. :D But yea, I think ST would have been a good move for them.

Yeah, I felt the same way. I also felt that that was the only scene that did not need to be in the movie. It served absolutely no purpose.

Loved the movie though. Can't wait to see it again.

Should be interesting:

Based on tracking, “Star Trek,” which cost about $140 million to produce, appears poised to gross between $65 million and $75 million.

Just a few days ago, executives with access to pre-release audience polling were expecting an opening closer to $60 million. But overwhelmingly positive reviews and online word of mouth have given it a boost, particularly with teenagers and women who previously seemed immune to a marketing onslaught that tried to position it as a general-interest action flick.

As a result, a debut close to “Wolverine’s” $85 million, while still unlikely, is now in the realm of possibility. (“Star Trek” is in 250 fewer theaters, but 138 of them are Imax, where tickets cost several dollars more, which should even the opportunity.) That would be a very impressive showing for a franchise reboot that many initially expected to perform similarly to “Batman Begins,” which opened at just $48.8 million.

But for the new film to truly warp into hit territory, it will have to seek out new ticket buyers in foreign countries. “Star Trek” movies have traditionally performed poorly overseas, with 1996’s “First Contact” currently holding the record at $58 million.

Paramount has promoted the new film aggressively outside of the U.S. in anticipation of this weekend’s opening in 54 foreign markets (all the major ones except Mexico, India, Japan and China). If “Star Trek” grosses $40 million or more overseas, it could be well on the way to blockbuster status.

Almost as interesting will be whether Fox’s “Wolverine” manages to drop less than 60% from its strong opening. With largely negative word of mouth, some box-office watchers predict it might perform similarly to 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand,” which declined a huge 67% on its second weekend.

So far “Wolverine’s” weekday ticket sales, which have taken it to a total of $99.2 million, are lagging behind last year’s “Iron Man,” compared with their opening grosses on the same weekend.

one thing I'm trying to figure out, is if there was some implied 'universe/dimensional' reason why Kirk, when ejected from the Enterprise in an escape pod, happened to be not only in the area of space, but also landed onto not only the exact planet, but also the exact part of the planet, and got chased by two monsters into the exact damn cave that 'Old Spock' has found refuge in after accidentally going back in time.

I mean.... isn't that just one (whole collection of!) coincidence too far?

Of course, I ignored it. The film was too much fun not to... but I was wondering if there was a reason this happened that I totally missed. Or was it something we're just not supposed to notice?

Star Trek was exactly what I needed as well. I left the theater on high, my friends did as well. We were like kids going over the plot, which resorted to us making gestures and doing sound effects. It just felt right to me and I was left wondering why Star Trek hasn't been this way for awhile? I love Next Generation, but I forgot how much I missed the characters of the original series.

And the trio was nailed! Kirk, Spock and Bones:rock That was really imortant for me.

10/10 Can't wait for what's next (for me, that will be seeing it Saturday with girlfriend and Sunday with family for Mothers Day)

That part is a coincidence, because remember Spock Prime says "How did you find me?" It was chance that Spock marooned Kirk there and it was this meeting that caused Spock Prime to realize that the timeline had been severely altered more than just the destruction of Planet Vulcan (people still don't get that if Spock Prime's ship was from the Vulcan Space Academy 150 years in the future and now its destroyed that is proof enough of a time alter though...) so he intervenes to make sure the Crew of the Enterprise becomes intact.

What an amazing film from start to finish. Cant see Transformers or T4 beating this in terms of quality. My only gripe...why oh why did they have to blow up Vulcan???? It does give a certain poignancy to the film and the way it has displaced an enitire race but it SERIOUSLY f'ks up the existing canon, i mean in STIII Spock's body is returned to Vulcan. Where do they take him now?! I think they could've just maybe killed Amanda (Spocks mum) and parallel George Kirks death rather than destroy such an historically significant planet.I'm a bit uncomfortable with the notion canon has been altered to such an extent...

Canon was pretty much thrown out. The death of George Kirk and the destruction of Planet Vulcan where just the first two issues. The Death of George Kirk changed Kirk's life to become the "brat" that he was but also expanded because remember Spock Prime was shocked that Scotty was on this planet outpost and not in the Academy because he hadn't nailed his Warp Transport equation yet. In fact its Spock Prime that shows him the equation and therefore pushing him to be a major part of the Enterprise as he once was. If it weren't for Spock Prime getting involved then the Crew of the Enterprise wouldn't have been together as it were in the end, even to the last conversation he had with Spock (What's the opposite of Prime? :lol)

Though the Kobayasi Maru test could've been handled better too...seemed a bit daft but hey ho I'm by and large geeked out with this film...Karl Urban is the real gem here. Bring on the next one....KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNN!
