I've been trying to come up with some frivolous, nit-picky negatives about this movie ever since I walked out of the cineplex earlier today, and I think I've come up with a good one:

What's with all the lens flare? Lots and lots of it. I noticed it in the trailers and pre-release clips, but I wasn't prepared to see it blinding me during closeups too.

Yep that's him. Just confirmed it. He played a hostage and was SO American.

No, you're right, Anton Yelchin's (the new Chekov) accent is stronger than Koenig's, in both ways. I feel Yelchn's accent is more authentic, which isn't surprising considering he is Russian.

The way I like to see it is original Chekov slightly phased out a bit of his russian accent as he aged from his youth (as portrayed by Yelchin Chekov) surrounded by the myriad people of myriad races and cultures. But that's just how I rationalize it.

Well, it wasn't bad or anything, just as far as my experience, it was more than Koenig did with the original voice, but I really don't know the old show so I was curious if it was stronger in the series or if this was just a really fresh interpretation.

I really enjoyed young Scotty. I think it captured the comical side of the original Scotty, but amped it up in such a way that it makes old Scotty seem like a natural, worn down by time and experience version of this younger self.

One scene, which was very entertaining, but didn't live up to what I expected as the movie lead into it was the Kobiyash Maru test. Based on Wrath of Khan's telling, I imagined Kirk to go through it successfully, but not so cocky about it. It was entertaining to see him sitting there all cool because he knew it would work out, but I imagined that it would have been more trying to act as if he hadn't done anything.
