That's some heavy stuff to think about, man. But it brings some happy nostalgia too, right?
TREKKERS!
One thing that did throw me, and someone familiar with the original series can enlighten me, was Chekov's accent ever that strong in the TV show because it certainly wasn't in the movies, it seemed a bit too heavy in this one.
What made it even worse is I think (and I haven't checked yet) the hostage in a movie called Alpha Dog. Very weird movie and true story to boot.

Yep that's him. Just confirmed it. He played a hostage and was SO American.
No, you're right, Anton Yelchin's (the new Chekov) accent is stronger than Koenig's, in both ways. I feel Yelchn's accent is more authentic, which isn't surprising considering he is Russian.
Yelchin plays Kyle Reese in Terminator: Salvation. I remember watching Alpha Dog, but I don't remember much from it. I think I'm starting to like the kid.
Well that's the thing, it did sound authentic, it wasn't like over the top fake, more over what the original Chekov was, which was low-key fake. My first thought seeing Abrams' movie was wow, Chekov's a full blown Russian now.
He played the kid that was kidnapped. I remember because he looked so young and I felt so bad for what they did to him. A very, very interesting movie. So sad it was pretty much a true story.

I take it as he is brand new. So I would imagine his accent would fade a little over time.
That was pretty sad, since it was true.
