Better than the Star Wars prequels combined. That's all I really have to say. And I'll be seeing this again in IMAX.

We really have to stop comparing this to Star Wars, Star Trek is for nerds not geeks..takes some actual thought to figure out what they are doing in Star Trek as in Star Wars its piss poor acting with amazing visuals, Star Wars is really Sci-Fi for everyone of all ages, Star Trek is way way more technical then Star Wars could ever imagine.

Just got back. Here's my review:

Nonononono....

Star Wars is great and it's done for film what Star Trek did for TV, and while this new one is great--Star Trek owes a lot to the innovations of Star Wars.

How do you figure?, TOS was out way before ANH..i don't understand and i mean the movies have naval style combat, even right down to the uniforms, and i always thought each alien species resembled different cultures on earth like the Klingons are Russians,Vulcans and even Ferengi were like Jews, Borg were similar to Nazi's etc..

This movie could easily end up my favorite of 2009. I loved it, everything about it was just very entertaining, and the most powerful part of it all, it was the character relationships and storytelling that made it fun. Yes it was set in a world full of special effects, but that was all meaningless to what made the film enjoyable, they could have stuck these guys on the old carboard looking set of the original TV series and it still would have worked. Great job by the writers coming up with the story and dialogue, and great job by all the actors portraying each part.

There's a difference? (aside from one being a pejorative term).

As for comparisons between the two, it's not apples and oranges. It's more like oranges and grapefruit. Of course there will be comparisons.

I couldn't believe the amount of emotion in this movie. I really thought it would just be Star Trek as an action movie, but instead got Star Trek being Star Trek. :rock

When Spock Prime was explaining to Kirk, I don't recall the exact quote so please forgive me, "Jim, I just lost my home planet. I can assure you, I am quite emotionally unstable." I nearly lost it, it was just so moving and at that point, for me, the movie became "Spock's Tragedy"

But still, I'm probably doing a disservice to the film by calling it "Spock's Tragedy" because it was so much more than that, but that point of the movie is what really stuck with me.

Nimoy + Quinto = ftw :rock

Nimoy was definitely a highlight. Quinto did a great job of portraying Spock, but Nimoy's voice and all is just irreplacable. The 2-part Unification episode of TNG was always a favorite, and I wished that Nimoy had been worked into the Generations movie.

I'll admit, I got a little choked up when Spock recited the "I have been, and always shall be, your friend." line, it always gets to me in Star Trek 3 as his mind slowly starts to come back and he walks over to Kirk, "Jim, your name is Jim."

You make no sense there and secondly apparently haven't seen the NEW Trek. :lecture

Ask any non supposed nerd or geek if you will. They can't even tell you the difference between the two. :lol

I was really moved by the beginning during His fathers heroic act. Having lost a father that had me almost in tears. Plus the fact that it was the beginning of the movie and I was already missing the fact that we have seen almost everyone of them together in the theater and he wasn't sitting beside me. It was almost too much for me and I wanted to get up and leave. Glad I didn't.

This movie was incredible. I'm sure everything has already been said, so i won't bother going into it all with my own two cents..

but yeah.. i went in hoping for a good flick.. but ready for a let down.
I even knew they were going to pull at hearts with the opening.. and i kinda rolled my eyes at that..

but i tell you, in that seat, watching it in imax so beautifully.. i admit.. i shed some tears when they were naming him and when his dad asked her to tell him about his son.. :(

SO SAD.
Must.. compose myself.. lol

What a great, fun filled, action packed adventure!

Trek hasn't made me feel like that since First Contact. And even that was nowhere near this..

The freakin sound of them going to warp! soooo cool!

This was the most fun I've had at the theater in a long time.... Seeing the original characters again was like being reunited with old friends, in an entirely awesome and new way. The cast was amazing! I was on the edge of my seat, laughing and being moved all at the same time.

This was the first big summer movie for me (didn't see Wolverine), and I don't think any of the others will live up to it.

Uhh, most Trekkies dislike Star Wars, and it has nothing to do with it rivaling eachother..remember, Trek was around way before Star Wars..i think the only common thing i see in the two is that they are both created by Jews and thats it..Trek learned nothing from Star Wars but, i know Star Wars could have learned something from Trek, especially for the PT like how to write a half decent script.

Photon torpedoes were around in Trek before Luke shot his "Proton torpedoes" down the Death Stars shaft..no similarities there?.

That's some heavy stuff to think about, man. But it brings some happy nostalgia too, right?
