For the past week, I've been cringing every time I read a post about how some Trekkie was all in a kerfluffle about how this movie would disrupt the precious continuity. Just the kind of worrying that defines the worst kind of Trekkie, but I gotta say, the movie was pretty damn cool. Totally awesome when Scotty said "I'm givin' it all she's got" at the end.

That's definitely how you do a reboot. Just enough classic to remind you about the best parts of what made it fun. And I don't even like Star Trek.

My wife already wants to see it again.

Very glad I invested the few minutes it took to read the little graphic novel prequel--it set up the story and the villain nicely.

Yea, it really added both to the backstory of the film, but also explained more of why Nero really hated Spock. They pretty much explained it during the mind meld with Kirk, but the novel just made me enjoy the film a whole lot more.

Yeah, I was 'hoping' for a small TNG cameo somehow, but there is really no mention in the movie about Countdown - nada. No explanation on the ship being modified borg technology, etc. Glad I read it - otherwise I would have me scratching my headn on the small details!

As it stands, what the heck did Nero do for the 20 - 25 years between Kirk's birth (first attack) and his attack on Federation space?

yo i am hearing insanely positive reviews on this and im no star trekkie my mom is though and i bought the movie figures of the crew because im hearing what a great movie this is so im going to see it on mothers day and i cannot wait for this movie.

saw this last night............wasn't what i expected at all, though i'm not sure what i thought it would be, and yeah killing off most of the vulcan race. hmmm that's would be a little risky for any really die hard trekky to swallow.

for myself though a very entertaining show, 4 out of 5 and would see it again.

edit: glad nemoy was in this and not shatner, nemoy gives it a bit of credibility, while shatner would've just brought it done a notch or two imo

shatner was damn good in boston legal though, always making fun of himself.

down loaded porn.:lol

I loved every ASPECT of this film, even the Vulcan issue. That whole scenario left my jaw hanging. Brilliant, epic and true to Star Trek. Nothing seemed forced and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. I cannot wait to see more.

One more voice among the "loved it" party.

'Reboot' no longer makes me cringe. This movie makes me want to see more.

Reboot is only a bad thing when the people doing the rebooting don't get what makes the material enjoyable. Abrams showed a strong understanding of what makes Trek, especially with the original characters, work, and that's why this movie work, it's a new look at the classic material. He didn't change what Star Trek he, he just gave us a different vision of it. Watching original Trek and Abrams Trek is like looking at the same exact thing, only the first was through Roddenbury's eyes, now we see how Abrams sees it.

This is what remakes/reboots should be. Granted, I'd still love for original stories, but if this is going to happen, at least do it right. Peter Jackson's Kong and Abrams' Star Trek so far are the only remakes/reboots I've seen that understand the magic of the original and deliver that with a new twist. Everything else I've seen really should just be a new story, it doesn't get the magic of the original and ends up so departed it may as well just be something new instead of remake.

I dunno, so far I'd say that along with this and Kong, the new Bond flicks are a good modern day take on the spy. So.. can we get the next Trek into pre-pro ASAP? As long as there is a good story, I don't care where JJ and the rest take us, I am going.

You called her Uhuru when it's Uhura, Mike felt like busting your balls.

the new Bond flicks are a good modern day

I think with Bond though, it's an evolution, between ever changing actors and the films spanning decades, it's just a natural flow. I don't think anyone's ever made a Bond with intent to start over or change who Bond is, just evolving the character.

To me, reboots are like Texas Chainsaw, Halloween, Friday the 13th. Those films are blatantly done to start from the beginning, like Trek, and tell the story in a new way, but most case, they tell a whole new, different story, which to me is a failure at what a reboot/remake should be.

Honestly, I think they shouldn't do more movies, just keep Abrams involved, sign the cast and turn this into a TV series again. This would easily be a show I'd make sure I made time to watch every week.

Salaries and budget are the two big stumbling blocks there. Also, where was this shot? Some people might not be up for relocating for a series. Either way we are already going to get at least one more movie.
