I thought Urban as Bones was the most accurate performance in the film (without going into imitation, of course).

I was laughing so hard at that part. It was SO classic bones without being um....classic bones. Weird! :lol

I want to go see this shat again. In fact when the girlfriend comes over I just may drag her ass out to go see it. She will love it anyways. :D

Glad to see others are loving this as I did. I am seeing my second viewing tomorrow on Imax, and will be seeing it a 3rd time next weekened!!!

And its 'trekkies' darn it......always was, always will be.

Best line in the movie is where Spock leaves his sciencey acadame thing, and goes to Starfleet...

"Live long...and prosper..." if he only added a "MOTHER ^^^^ERS." i'd be better.

Yeah, I liked that a lot. I wonder if we'll see a slightly more in touch (with emotions) Spock next movie in light of the events that happened...?

I thought the same thing. It would seem this Spock is on a path that might make him embrace his human half more-so than Spock Prime ever did.

Actually I think this Spock is well along that path. Witness his relationship with one of the other characters that clearly predates the start of the main part of the movie.

Spock Classic (sorry Spock Prime makes me think of a fifty foot robot with pointy ears :rotfl ) did eventually reconcile the dual sides of his heritage and his nature, but it wasn't until ST:The Motion Picture and ST:TWOK that he was really comfortable in his own skin, years after the original Enterprise voyages. I think the new Spock has a head start on that, but may face other difficulties. He has a LOT of rage and pain over events in this film.

one thing I'm trying to figure out, is if there was some implied 'universe/dimensional' reason why Kirk, when ejected from the Enterprise in an escape pod, happened to be not only in the area of space, but also landed onto not only the exact planet, but also the exact part of the planet, and got chased by two monsters into the exact damn cave that 'Old Spock' has found refuge in after accidentally going back in time.

I mean.... isn't that just one (whole collection of!) coincidence too far?

Of course, I ignored it. The film was too much fun not to... but I was wondering if there was a reason this happened that I totally missed. Or was it something we're just not supposed to notice?

OMFG! I had to contain myself from laughing hysterically before and during the sequence where Kirk parachuted into the atmosphere of Vulcan. Seriously, I was giggling so hard and it would not have been cool of me to laugh out loud -- no one else saw that they were going on a mission with someone in a RED SHIRT! Ok, a RED SUIT! And boom goes the dynamite, Red Suit bit it! Wanted to laugh my fraking ass off!

why is he called Spock Prime?

That's how they identified him in the credits - just to distinguish Nimoy from Quinto.

I've always been a Trek fan, although it scared me as a little kid when my brothers watched it. I've just recently watched Khan and Voyage Home - previously my favorite Trek films, and this one just blows them out of the water!

I'd agree with what most have said here - the nods to the original are great, the action is great, the characters are great - even the plot is interesting and the reboot that isn't a reboot - was handled in a very Trek-like way.

Many of the reviewers have been going on how it's a great "action" film, but the fact that they were able to develop the characters so well and so strongly and still maintain the pace makes this a truly great film. Perhaps we're so familiar with the characters that it makes it easier - but I swear that I felt more for Uhuru in this film than in all the previous screen appearances and we got to know here better. I'm hoping they bring in Nurse Chapel and Spock gets a little romantic triangle going...

Yes, it wasn't believable that Kirk got captaincy so quickly, but Pike set it up making him first officer - and it was probably Pike's influence that allowed him to keep the ship. As for the coincidence of Kirk landing near Spock prime - Nero didn't want to kill Spock prime, so he set him down near the Federation station - just like Spock did with Kirk. So it's not too much of surprise they'd end up in the same cave.

And the redshirt biting it - and being so enthusiastic about it - classic!

But I still don't like the shiny plastic phasers with the red tips.

You could see it change in the big laser fight at the end. When they enter the cargo hold, and run off, Kirk changes it, and it becomes red.

Well I saw the change, but like I said, I thought it was that the phasers had to be recharged every so often, like the plasma canons in AVP:R.

My wife already wants to see it again.

Very glad I invested the few minutes it took to read the little graphic novel prequel--it set up the story and the villain nicely.
