So on the radio this morning, the screenwriters shared the part of the movie that was cut that can Captain Kirk in it....I would say spoilers, but we've all seen it already.

It was towards the end when Spock was meeting up with Old Spock. When Old Spock was telling Spock that he and Kirk became great friends, he pulled out a little movie/projector/holographic viewer thing and it showed a message from Kirk to Spock saying something like "i'm glad we became friends" or something like that.

Honestly, the screenwriters said that leaving this end would make it seem that they were trying to hard, but I would have liked to seen that. Wish they would have left it in.

I have Just got back from seeing it.
I have to say it was great, the best Sci-Fi film I have seen in years. But, I have to say Wrath of Khan still pips it to the post as the best Star Trek film ever made.
9 out of 10

Wrath of Kahn is still my favorite as well... but this is a very close second. And who knows, with repeated viewings could claim the top spot.

Went out and bought the Blu Ray 3 pack yesturday and watched Wrath of Khan last night. And yes, Khan still beats new Star Trek. The writing and acting are all great, Shatner actually very effective in Khan.
Spock "Jim, be careful."
McCoy "WE will."

The thing about Wrath that makes it hard to beat for me, is the perfect nemesis battle. Khan is a great character design, the relationship between him and Kirk as it was written for the film really had a great adversary feel to it. The score was just perfect for all the moments, the way it all played out like a chess game in space was really cool, the wit and all required by Kirk and crew to beat Khan, it's just a great story to watch.

While this new Trek is great, I don't see it passing Khan as my favorite simply because it's really a character development film. It definitely does a better job than Star Trek the Motion Picture at starting off a films series with a crew. I think the sequel has potential to beat Khan for best though. Now that we've developed the characters, it's time to put them into action and adventure of their own.

Nero was really just a circumstance in this movie, the focal point was the evolution of everyone into their roles and the journey, with Nero just being the catalyst for it all to happen, he wasn't really a nemesis to Kirk and company until the final battle on the ship.

I almost feel Wrath and Search for Spock are 1 movie. I love the emotion of the loss of Spock, and it's equal in his return. One of my favorite, and I'll admit, teary eye moments in Trek is the end of 3 when Spock's trying to piece back his memory and everyone's looking at him like ^^^^, it didn't work and then he remember's Kirk's first name as he called him too, not just James, but Jim, gets me every time. I know Kirk's the main guy of old Trek, but for me, Spock is just a bit more important to me than Kirk.

Ok, this movie is awesome but whats with the ship interiors looking like steel plants?, like the Kelvin.

Saw this last night. Only thing got going for it is Uhura undressing. Other than that, *meh*

Why Lil' Kirk Was Listening to the Beastie Boys

One of the complaints nerds have about the new J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie is the very odd use of the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" when young Kirk is driving his stepdad's classic car off a cliff. Although I liked the movie, I did think it was odd to hear such a well-known, popular song in Star Trek. Well, TR commenter PossibleMisnomer has an idea why the song was used, and I think he's 100% right -- it's because William Shatner has a long history of mispronouncing the word sabotage as "sabo-taj." Watch the above video, and you can even hear him refusing to admit his pronunciation is wrong (during some kind of voice work), and then him saying "sabo-taj" back in his Trek TV days. I am 100% convinced Abrams used the song as a nod to this, and now I think it's awesome and hilarious.

I just returned from watching Star Trek. I thought the cast was great, strong acting but the story was slightly better than average (IMO). The Austin Powers story line with Spock was a disappointment and several parts were predictable.

I give it a solid 8 / 10.

Whatever the reasoning (and this one is intriguing) I think it was also another way to say this isn't the old way Trek is done.

Next Gen used to drive me crazy with the characters frequently making small talk about composers 500 years dead. Apparently modern culture in the Federation had stagnated and died, so all they had to listen to were classical string quartets.

So for whatever reason, I really enjoyed hearing something totally unexpected.

For my old school TREKKIES, its slightly **** but no nudity just content. Enjoy!

I just ordered the original motion picture collection on Blu Ray. :rock Abrams must have done a good job. I have always liked the movies but not enough to buy them. I now have a new respect for the series.
