I finished the raised back portion of Jabba's steps today. It's the start of the platform landing that is behind Jabba's throne.

Unfinished raw wood...

Finished and installed...

Closeups of the left side w/out flash...

With the flash which shows the gap between the throne and platfor which I will block off with a small piece of plywood...someday.:D

Awesome job! I think it is too many steps. But your paint app rules. I would have to say that you have earned the best looking steps award. I think they would look better though not on wood. Use the foam stuff and I think you have it locked.

Thanks BadMoon!
Me carpenter. Foam bad. Wood gooood. :D

If I didn't see I wouldn't believe it, those steps started out as wood.
Good job I like the job you did to make it look weathered and worn.
:chew

:rock Thanks Trafford! I wish I could get the photos to show the texture I applied to them better.:monkey2

Honestly. Please give it a shot! LOL! I think you have them down. The wood is too solid looking.

I think it needs an arch now and some kind of image behind your back steps and the arch to give it further depth.

Using the arch to end the top of the image (if you know what I mean)

paint yourself a backdrop :-

I have inhaled a lot of sawdust over the last three days and I blame all you people who couldn't leave well enough alone and just keep Jabba on the bookcase of something.

Thanks for that third screen grab Mooncat. I'm actually going to build an arch that will become a support of sorts for another display shelf above Jabba. That second picture sure will come in handy for that.

Sawdust is all natural which means it's good for you.:D

That is amazing work Coco, really impressive. Can't wait to see your finished display. And how perfect is that nook for Jabba! Its like you were meant to have him there:rock

Coco, you're display really got me thinking about what the upper limits to Jabba's place would be. With your set up, the arch wouldn't be hard and if you set up a "shell" with a rear wall and maybe just a relief of the barbecue. Then you could put a top on it and use it for an upper display.

Thanks galactiboy! I now know I was always destined to have Jabba's set up long before SS made it and the nook is just further proof of that.:D

Exactly. The arch can be made as a two piece section with 1/8'' plywood (or cardboard) wrapped inside to give it some depth. It makes the perfect support for a deep shelf right above Jabba for PFs and whatnot.
Then all that is needed is a print out of the backdrop to go behind Jabba. Add a trap door in front of the throne and some texture and paint on the palace floor and you've got yourself the ultimate Jabba setup. :rock

These look really good!

I've been contemplating doing a background for Jabba for a while, but not having the display space is hurting.

There's blueprints for the throne room in the Star Wars Technical Journal. I found this site that has a small pic of them which the guy built a dio for his 3 & 3/4" figs.

I'm planning to use the pink insulation foam for mine, as I've used it for a lot of other 1/6 projects including a small house and barn. I've found it easier to cut than floral foam. I use 5 minute epoxy for glue and sheet rock screws for extra strength. Making a mixture of sheet rock spackle, glue and water (thin the spackle out slightly) and applying it gives a harder surface that can be spray painted.

The idea of using the arches to support another shelf above it is sweet!
