Well, he lobbied to play it. He's a huge (LOLOLOLOL) Reacher fan.

It was a good, logical move. But yeah.

I've listened to the first seven books, they have been fun. Cruise will act good as usual but physically he isn't close. I can't see him stoping a .38 slug with his peck muscle.

I would say Philip Winchester who plays Michael in Strike Back would have been a good choice. Obviously not a big enough name to lead a movie like this though.

Physically I can't think of any actor that fits the 6'5" 225lb description that can act. Liam Neeson could and even his Taken character is almost a carbon of Reacher, but he is far too old.

^ I don't know him, but he fits the look pretty well.

The books are really fun. I'm about as far as you. So far, aside from this one (One Shot) my favorite has been Echo Burning. Then after that Die Trying.

Yes, I don't know him either but I would say he looks perfect. That's Jack Reacher right there.

Cruise will be fine though I am sure of it. I guess they made this movie for people that have not read the books.

I think he will be fine as well.

Favorite so far is Die Trying and love the last part of Persuader.

Persuader is a great Reacher story, if you want Reacher with his old team try Bad Luck and Trouble, in the spirit of The Expendables this week.

Some early reviews for writer/director Christopher McQuarrie’s Jack Reacher are now available, with a consensus praising the film’s action sequences and pacing, as well as McQuarrie’s capable direction. Werner Herzog’s rare performance as the villain was also lauded across the board, while Tom Cruise’s role as the titular tough guy hit home with a majority of viewers. Fans of the Lee Child source novels were more critical of Cruise playing the 6’5” enforcer, but appeared to be won over by his on-screen intensity. The film also drew a number of comparisons to classics like Dirty Harry, Bullitt and The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Knew it :rock

Really excited for this now :)

Damn good movie....first 10 min is very, very uncomfortable though......

I've Read book one. Reacher is huge. Cruise is tiny. Did a great job though......

Does it bother anyone that the film is rated PG-13?

The trailer makes it appear to have R-rated action, but once I found out it was PG-13 I lost interest.

The same happened with the newer Die Hard. I passed on that too.

I heard this was pretty crap. Cruise is intense, awsome action sequencies, but poor characterisation and poor villain were the main things.

still probably see it. But I just dont like Tom Cruise. same **** different film.

Heard the same i wanted to see this i’ll wait for the dvd .

Just got back. True to book in almost every way. Minor differences.

Pretty damn good movie. Main villain was never important. Even in the book. He got a bit more character, but eh.

As for Cruise, yeah...he was Jack Reacher. Totally nailed 70% of the character. But lost 30% due to his size. S'ok. He worked. I love the little nods. They did understand the character at his core. Which is important.

However, for you non readers...It's not an action movie. There's action, but like the book, it's a thriller first and formost.

This is one of the better Cruise flicks. 8/10

You'll like it. It's a slow thriller. There's only...3 scenes of action. Not too long, but done very well. That's what I liked about the book. The story itself was interesting.

Also, great performances all around. Rosamund Pike was great as Helan, and I really liked the guy that played the right hand to the villain.

I need to see it again. Hah/
