Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

While nice, let's not forget what happened to the last one. I guess we have to encourage him along and see what happens.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

That's been said a few times.

If he'll mass produce it and it's the right size then we'll get excited.

Yeah but in terms of likeness it's the best ever imo. I'm not getthng excited because its unlikely we'll ever get our hands on it, sadly. It does look a bit big. Adam's sculpts sometimes are. Not many people remember this but when the Bale sculpt was first revealed it was huge, creg had to cast it smaller before he sent them out.

Here is the cast of Silva blank...

Then I royally screwed up painting him. I was watching a movie and wasn't really paying enough attention, I guess! I'll probably wipe it tomorrow and redo it... though I may just cast another.

Looks very nice, Leia. :clap

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Please do not post items for sale outside of the commerce section. Thank you.

The custom madness continues...

This time, Bond in his signature aquatic battledress from "Spy Who Loved Me"...

I know, I know, the head sucks. This is a rough draft, basically 1st pass, lots of tweaks and adjustments to do now that I see it in full form. But the perfection (futzing) is the fun part for me.

Gotta get a new head too....

Absolutely love it! One of my favourite of all of the Bond movies and easily my favourite Moore one.

Thanks for the suggestion on the correction to the nose! I think the profile is much improved. Meantime, I've reached the limit of my ability on this one, so he's getting molded tonight and cast sometime this week. :) Bardem was not a good choice for a first attempt at 1/6th sculpting - I should have picked someone waaaaaay easier!

Looks wonderful! Great work.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

So tired of the best Craig sculpts being unavailable...

Didn't see that last head Adam sold. Looks nice! I feel SSC heads are much bigger than the 1/6 heads we get with HT.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

As far as I can recall, the pre-Prometheus SSC figures were marketed as 12" figures and not as 1/6 scale. Therefore they could be between 1/5 and 1/6, this accounts for the head sizes being large, they simply weren't working to a given scale.

I guess, when they did become 1/6, the sculptors didn't make the transition easily. I built garage kits in my younger days and they were all done to scale and were essentially models. From my experience of working with 1/6 kits I can definitely say that figures by the likes of HT, EB and DID are 1/6 and are to scale. (Ironically, SSC's first foray into figures was with 1/6 garage kits!)

How you view figure scales probably depends on what you're used to. If you had Joes and suchlike they were 12" figures. If you built kits like I did then you're more likely to notice scales more.

Which brings us to Bond heads, SSC's probably aren't 1/6 as they were 12" figures. Most custom ones I've had have been 1/6, smaller, but importantly to scale.

The best heads in terms of the bodies we'll use, which will more than likely be TT's will be those that are 1/6.

Thank you very much, Neil. Definitely Moore's best and probably the last great Bond Movie of the old school films.

There are, after all, other Bonds besides Craig around here. :D

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I can see plenty of reasons to create figures/products at any number of given scales, especially if compatibility between lines, including accessories, isn't a concern. But if compatibility is a concern, then there's only one way to look at scale. 1/6 is 1/6 - there's no other interpretation and it's not difficult to conceptualize nor to work with more so than any other scale.

The most egregious of examples have been when mixed scales were used. There's really no excuse for that, especially with companies large enough to have someone overseeing a product (project manager, etc.)

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Certainly not disagreeing. Newer companies, keen to make good in the current figure market, will do well to follow companies that are consistent and keep to scale, which is pretty much where HT come in.

What we want is a diehard HT collector to make an unlicensed Bond to their standards but at several times less cost.

To quote Mr Connery: "I must be dreaming!"

Of course that is fairly recent for HT, staying in scale within a line. Remember the Pirates figures; short little Davy and too tall Jack and itsy bitsy Swann? And what about the tiny asss head for Harvey Dent? And I still say HT's Indiana Jones' head is too small.

They do seem to be getting better at the height differential now with the Avengers line-up. But Mark I is still too short.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Indy's head was compromised to fit Bruce Lee's PERS unit, since that came out they haven't bothered making a new one for each DX head. Some fair better than others as the heads are more in scale with Bruce's.

MMS figures are better than DX's as they are sculpted without compromise. You're right though they are getting better.

TSWLM has everything... even a gun under the table pointed at a crotch-- and the sharks... oh those lovely menacing sharks. Love it (not to mention one of the best Bond girls and greatest evil henchmen--before he became neutered in Moonraker).

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Got to admit, it was a good movie. They got serious again, but, sadly it didn't last as they went silly again in Moonraker.

The silliness in MOONRAKER (i.e. the heavy sci-fi theme (i.e. space battle scene) is attributed to the STAR WARS craze for the period.

IMHO . . . the two greatest all out battle fest within the franchise's history is from YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE (ninja raid on the volcano launch bay) and THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (assault sequence by the American & British naval personnel inside the tanker). Since the latter, there really has not been a full out battle sequence in subsequent films where an all out assault in shown in detail.

I guess I should also add GOLDFINGER to the list as well, but the battle scenes outside the vault complex was far & few where it was limited to mostly Bond taking on Odd Job inside the vault.
