Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

I liked Avatar. But you are sounding a bit like those starry-eyed kids who couldn't handle anyone not thinking Heath Ledger as the Joker was the best thing to ever happen to cinema... in short you just might be the kind of poster who many of us laugh about. :D

lol shut up its annoying, i got a lotta crap for telling people to stop comparing avatar to dances with wolves but im going to stop i dont want anybody to think im a huge fanboy who gets mad when people dislike somthing i dont like.:D

All this fuss about Plagiarism, who cares it's a great movie.

The Terminator has had to deal with the same BS, but most people love that movie too

The Transformers is a rip off of the Gundam series, but who cares, If the Toys and Cartoons are awesome?

And for the haters on here, let them have their little clique if it makes them happy. Bless em

What a pathetic clip. I'm a Cameron fan too and there's no point in downplaying his tendency to "borrow". He did the same thing with Avatar, you'd be hard-pressed to deny that Cameron read "Call Me Joe" based on his self-acknowledged voracious reading.

The point is, I love Cameron for his strengths and originality is not one of them. I'm fine with that but I object to this extremely ignorant and biased YouTube clip.

For starters, the guy practically fellates Cameron in the clip. He states that Cameron didn't take Ellison's ideas (and by the way, I've never read Ellison's stories so I am even biased towards Cameron) as if it's a fact and then talks about how Cameron is such a genius.

Secondly, he acts like it was all about "Soldier". Anyone with any knowledge of the Terminator/Ellison situation knows it was THREE stories. "Soldier", "Demon with a Glass Hand" and "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream".

Take one similarity and I have no problem buying the two scenarios that cover most plagiarism allegations:

1: two people independently came up with similar concepts

2: it falls more towards the inspiration/homage side of the line than the "ripoff" side

but as much as I love Cameron I cannot deny that the FACT that significant portions of the plot to "The Terminator" come from three works by the same author and I agree with Ellison wholeheartedly when he says that he was owed some acknowledgment. You can no longer play the "homage" card when you've cannibalized multiple stories from the same writer.

Now we have all this "Call Me Joe" stuff surfacing and at this point it's really undeniable and I don't see why some people can't respect and admire someone without completely burying their own heads in the sand when a valid criticism pops up.

Cameron crossed a line, he got caught and the wrong was righted. He really should pay Poul Anderson something too, it wouldn't make me love "Avatar" any less.

Also, the guy loses points right away when he says that "production assistants" are usually the first people listed in the end credits. Christ.

Most of the people seeing Avatar are college kids...in my experience. School is out and it's the cool movie now (like the Hangover was). I am 25 myself, out of college a few years. :dunno

:lol:lol Genuine post from some looney over @ the Avatar forums..The fact the o.p mentions he'd hurt his kid is the most disturbing thing about it ...

I was more disturbed by the fact that the guy could no longer bang the wife. Butch up, buttercup. Haha.

With age comes perspective and discretion. Oh, and sometimes... wisdom and proper grammar (though the internet is slowly killing both).
