I would say this to people that get offended when somebody says they don't like the movie, that it's their opinion and we should respect that.
Hell, I'm a Star Wars Prequel fan, so I've known for years what it's like to get flak for liking movies most people hate.

I don't mind constructive criticism, but I feel some of you seem to think we must be retarded Fanboys if we happen to think this movie was a modern day classic.

I think there's a question of perspective. Let's remember that last summer the Internet was flooded with claims Transformers 2 was one of the greatest movies ever made.

Most of those comments were by teenagers. Most teenagers couldn't tell you the difference between The Thin Man and The Third Man. It's very hard to rave about a movie and be taken seriously if you can't contextualize it.

Whenever you see "hater" in a post you can be reasonably sure that yes, the Retarded Fanboy Factor is in play.

Peeing ones self with excitement. Squeein... well I am not even sure what it means exactly. :lol... It's British and I think it has to do with getting so excited over something you have an asthma attack. :lol

Oh, Thanks for that.
Well I did not need to change my trousers, so I think I'm alright in that department. :lol

Not you specifically. Just a generalization about what the direction this thread was heding toward. Which is a discussion about an element of fandom which you sort of got yourself into the middle and you may have gotten singed in the crossfire. :) :peace

Tell me dat wuz delibrate, Marc? :lol :rotfl

He be my boyz, so dat ok!!!! ARRRRGGGG :gun

Its a discussion board, not a circle-jerk. Expect disagreement.

That being said:

Avatar nominated for a WGA award.

So a bunch of writers thought this was one of the 5 best scripts of 2009?
I find that totally embarrassing.

Effects? YES

Script? No

The WGA noms are getting ripped to shreds by many in the industry already. AVATAR isn't the only facepalm on there.

It's interesting to see Avatar, Hangover and Star Trek up for writing awards. I expected films like "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire," but seeing popular mass market films get recognition makes me wonder what the Oscar nominations are going to look like this year.

I can just tell you that I will giggle every single time that one of the Oscar presenters/announcers has to rattle off the full title of "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire."

I wouldn't have nominated it either, but THE HANGOVER was by far the best written of those three films.

Like AVATAR, the script for TREK was far from its best asset. In fact, it might be the one real loose end.

You can fly Federation starships through TREK's conveniently contrived plot holes, though. :lol

(That said, I loved TREK... it rises above its pedestrian script, but Abram's and the cast deserve most of the credit, not Orci & Kurtzman).

Yea the script in star trek should win an award if anything it was very well done.

The WGA is comprised of people trained to write by Hollywood formula. Of course they think Avatar is one of the five best scripts of the year!

You've got a closet full of unsold scripts don't you? :angelsmil

But seriously, of the 5 nominees for original screenplay - 3 of them eschew the traditional structure of "Hollywood" screenplays - so saying they support the formula doesn't really stand up.
