And I've seen more than one person who has served in our own armed forces stating how much they related to and identified with Jake as a military man fighting for a worthy cause, and yet there are others who believe the entire film is quite literally either anti-military or at least anti-US military.

But that entirely misses the point. Jake and the military as presented in the film are not one and the same; perhaps initially, but you can't come anywhere near confusing them at the end of the film. I don't see why one must be true over the other, they are not to be equivocated.

:dunno :huh :dunno

Okay, okay, I can forgive all the other plot holes, but for some reason, this one just won't leave my head... if the purpose of moving their small science camp (the one that was formerly in the Hallelujah Mtns) to a place closer to the tree was so that the marines couldn't track them and electronic signals couldn't be sent/received (or whatever)... how were they able to talk so clearly with the other scientist guy, who was still at basecamp, and find out about Quarritch's (spelling?) plans for bombing? Like I said, I'm okay with the many other holes, but that one just got under my skin since they spent so much time/dialogue on how badly that area messes with communications...

I got this from IMDB
Jake Sully and Dr. Grace shifted base near the sacred tree, where there is supposedly some flux vortex that interferes with technology, so that the human camp cannot trace their whereabouts. Yet Jake is able to communicate with Dr. Max over a video chat. However, the effects of the flux vortex on technology aren't explicitly stated, and it certainly doesn't affect their helicopter's ability to fly or its on-board systems in any of the scenes, so it may be that the video chat still works.

Am I the only one who felt a little bad for the humans, its not like every single Marine wanted to murder the ____ of the natives, alot of them were just doing what there told and I gotta say, getting shot is pretty quick, getting trampled, crushed, impaled etc, is not.

you dont like the debate, feel free to leave the thread. dont paint it as "take downs" just because you dont agree with views presented. this is the avatar movie thread, anything related to that movie is good enough to be discussed here. if some idiots start acting like a child, it's only fair to put them in their place. you play nice, i'll give you a nice reply. you want to act like a child, i'll treat you like a child. it's a simple rule.

I am merely trying to highlight the purpose of some that join forums. Typically the latter tends to be very vocal, replying to anything possible which is still fine in my books but then there is the annoying part of obscenity, name calling and other means of taunting to be that extra bit pushy and verbally abusive for their own entertainment.
The real simple rule is write like you would if you were talking to someone face to face and he is bigger than you :D

For those who see Avatar as anything more than a crowd pleasing fairy tale it has proven to be a truly fascinating rorshach test.

It literally has a hero come from the sky, walk the planet in the flesh of the inhabitants, and save them. Yet the Vatican reviewer is apparently blind to the Christian symbolism and only sees a movie about worshipping nature. People who want to make it about race seem to either see it as holding whites as the savior of other peoples...or the destroyers. And I've seen more than one person who has served in our own armed forces stating how much they related to and identified with Jake as a military man fighting for a worthy cause, and yet there are others who believe the entire film is quite literally either anti-military or at least anti-US military.

Its amazing that the movie is capable of being so many things to so many different people.

yeah well if facts can be distorted by everyone's POV then fiction really stands no chance :D I actually like to explore and hear different POVs as long as it is done in a respectful manner and everyone can still stay open minded

What about all the poor Russian soldiers that get killed by James Bond just for doing there job?

I think Austin Powers joke at the end of the first movie was really funny, when after Austin kills a Henchman, you see the aftermath that causes to their family and friends

:lol Made me think of Michael Caine playing his father in the 3rd one.

"Do you know who I am? Your just a henchman, look you don't even have a nametag..."

Yea especially that guy who got thrown out that ship by that dragon, he probaly has a wife and kids and a little brother. How are they gonna explain to the family that he was thrown out of a ship by a giant dragon ?

Open-mindedness can be somewhat overrated. I'm all for listening to other points of view ... but there's nothing wrong with having made up your mind.

Nobody is denying you your opinion nor the right to express it. Being open minded does not deter you from that, just tends to result in you being less confrontational because you are more......

I wasn't claiming anyone was. My contention was that open-mindedness eventually becomes indecisiveness. There's nothing wrong with making up your mind once you've reviewed the evidence.

read that first sentence again. that doesnt sound like someone who's open minded, does it?

VPN!??? :joy

Ha.. yeah that is a tough one to come up with a good answer for.

yes you did. but dont apologize, was just kidding with you. :)

anyway, ponder this:
"You think those two arrows in my chest are going to stop me from coming back?" Lang(Colonel Miles Quaritch) told EW, "Nothing's over so long as they've got my DNA."
if they want to go down that path then there's that possibility of quaritch getting his own blue avatar as well in avatar 2.

also, with worthington's star getting brighter everyday, it'd be 'funny' not to see his face in avatar 2 at all. well it's not 'funny' to me, but surely it'll be 'funny' to the studio and its marketing department. some flashback scenes, perhaps?

Rape and beastiality! (sorry, Darklord, it's in the movie ;))
the horse was a willing participant, but no doubt that banshee was raped. when the next evolution has taken place and the banshee all have grown higher consciousness, they will realize that they all were indeed victims of rape. and then i tell you... there will be a revolt in pandora.

Of course. I wasn't suggesting that I agreed with all interpretations people are making (as I most certainly don't), I was just pointing out that people are taking certain elements of the story and literally coming to polar opposite conclusions.
