the horse was a willing participant, but no doubt that banshee was raped. when the next evolution has taken place and the banshee all have grown higher consciousness, they will realize that they all were indeed victims of rape. and then i tell you... there will be a revolt in pandora.

The banshee had to chose him too - it was the only one that reared up and challenged him when the others just flew away.

And the bestiality thing is just silly - the ponytail is just another sensory receptor, like fingers or or ears - we touch a horse with our fingers in a completely different way then we touch another human (at least most of do) but both interactions use the same sense receptor.

So... since that's how they 'mate' is that how they produce new Na'vi too? Because that's just weird. THAT would definitely make it bestiality. Because we don't produce children or make 'mates for life' with just ANY sensory receptor.

What? You guys don't rub you junk on other people/things to say hi and/or feel connected? You're all just weird :lecture :lol

And I don't know... I would not call that banshee a willing participant in a consensual relationship. It basically had no choice, just like a rape victim - if he can't kill his tormentor, he must subdue to him. (There were also giggles in my audience at that part, especially with the close up on the eyes, as they definitely gave off the feeling that there was something sexual going on there.)

Racism, bestiality, and rape? I don't know what movie they were playing in your theaters, but none of that was in the movie I watched.

"Don't play with that... you'll go blind."

25 minutes later

"Stick that in the horse's, so you can make the bond!"

Not very subtle.

The first part is just a little joke about masturbation. The second part I don't get at all. It's more or less just the Navi hard wiring into the horse so they make a mental bond. Nothing more than that. Kind of like I think a Cobra gunship. From what I understand where the gunner looks the gun goes because the gun is wired into his helmet somehow. The Navi control the animals they ride by making the bond, don't see how it is construed as rape or bestiality.

You're quite right. Some people are trying their damnedest to find faults and misconstrue intentions. Rape? Bestiality? Racism? Come on, people.

While there were much larger nits in my mind, I did find the reaction of the animals odd when "plugged into;" the widening of the pupil/etc, with it being a "bond for life" it certainly was spiritual but also had some sexuality to it. With that said, does Jake "cheat" then? :dunno

Honestly, I hadn't thought of it before ... but the comparison does make a bit of sense. You honestly cannot see how a humanoid sticking an appendage into an animal (sometimes unwelcomed) can be construed as rape or bestiality? Not even when the appendage exchange is termed "bonding" with the animal?

Not only that ... but the "intimate" contact between the Marine and the blue indian broad under the magic tree was with the same appendage that is used to "bond" with wildlife.

Yikes.

I suppose that makes the movie simultaneously boring, and a bit creepy.

They are polygamists - the rider can ride whoever he wants, but the ridee (I like making up words) can only be ridden by the one who made the bond. At least, that's what I gather from it. Therefore, it's definitely NOT just intended to be a simple matter of 'hardwiring' or else why would there be a 'bond for life' aspect to it on the side of the banshee?

And I assume any "horse" will submit to any rider - why is it only the banshees that seem to have this weird aspect to them?

All just examples of how, on the surface, it's a great and fun ride at the theater. But when you start looking deeper, things get weird.

Thus, the argument of: "Don't look deeper, just enjoy it." Which I did, on the surface (exactly how I enjoyed films like Transformers and Iron Man, which brings me back to my original argument WAY back).
