People who think it looks like a video game, don't know what they are talking about. If anything, I think they might mean the PRE RENDERED CGI cutscenes or intros. But as far as acutal real-time gameplay graphics, and 3D game engines. Give me a break. None of your games when you are actually "playing" it do NOT look like this movie yet. AS good as my PC looks, as good as Crysis or Far Cry 2 looks, it doesn't look like this movie lol
And in all honesty, if we ARE talking about the pre rendered CGI cutscenes in video games, I still don't think anything has be done to this level yet either, and if it did, then you have to remember your comparing a few mintues of CGI computer work, compared to 3 hours, and mixing live action in it.

So do me the favor and sit at home, while I go to theatre to enjoy this 3D experience and I won't have to tell you to shut up while I'm trying to watch it. :)

I mean the cut scenes. Cut scenes are still part of a video game. Again I am not saying it isn't better than that. I am saying it is closer to that than real people in a suit in some cases.

I would say Bad is wrong when he says it looks like a video game. Because thats just silly.

Like in Beowulf, how the characters, while good, lacked any real emotion...Avatar will change this....the Na'vi looked real, they acted real. it worked.

Actually, that is just silly. You have no idea what this movie will or won't do.

Please enjoy your movie while we enjoy our 2D discussion.
Telling people to shut up in the real world might cause a "3D experience" to your face. Even mighty Sith lords like yourself should be careful! :lol

If it reminds people of a video game there's a reason for that. All the tech and artistry don't make any difference to the audience - they see what they see. You can't tell people that it doesn't remind them of a video game. Animated digital characters are animated digital characters. Why pretend they're anything more?
The finished product might win people over, or fulfill the expectations of the pre-fanboys. I hope it does.

I think it's a combination of both the color pallet and their appearance that's making them appear unrealistic. Their face proportions are closer to animated characters so when we look at them, our memories immediately associate them with unrealistic animated characters. The colors of both their faces and eyes are so bright that the animated association is even stronger.
I hope once we get into the story, we look past the association and start seeing them in a different light.

After a few seconds you wont care how realistic they look. They move fluidly like real people because they are real people motion captured. I dont think it will deter you from enjoying the film.

Have people forgotten or not read the rest of this thread....

The movie isn't finished, neither was the trailer. Lets hold off on the video game talk till it hits theaters, then you can have a go at it but right now its not really a fair statement. I personally can't wait to play the game whether my big screen supports 3D or not. It looks cool and you get to explore Pandora a whole month before it hits the theaters!

I hate to bring it up, but....I have too. You say that the movie isn't finished. Great! I agree! So lets also quit the "This is the most fantastic movie in the world talk" stuff. I see both sides here. I really do. However, anyone and I mean anyone that says this looks "real" I think has serious problems. Again, I find a guy in a suit "IE The Predator" to be way more convincing than these aliens.

Will I enjoy the movie? I hope so and I do plan on seeing it.

I would also like to add that I would be way more happy if this was a live action movie with maybe CG backgrounds.

There's no reason not to discuss what actually is on display. Whether I think it looks like a video game or you think it looks like National Geographic.

I have to agree. Since people are already making youtube videos to describe their love for a film that they haven't even seen I think it is and should be up for discussion.

Tough crowd in here. :)

I know sheesh! I am only speaking of what I have seen, which thus far has blown my skeptical mind. If I can get 3 hours of the same-awesome. If its better when finished-super. Some of the greatest directors of our time are the ones making these statements as well. Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg to name two powerhouses. I feel they know what they are talking about.

I have also seen interviews where they have said fans and people in general have no idea what is in store because this is locked down tight and they arent spoiling the movie by showing us amazing scenes just yet. We still have 4 months to go. I cant wait for the next trailer!

Who could you be referring to? If you dislike the movie so much and the "blue fairies", why spend your time posting about it?

I am talking about you mainly. I did watch your movies. Sorry, you posted them. :dunno I did enjoy some of it.

I feel though that your love for the film has somehow blinded you from what I have actually been posting though. :lecture

I have said repeatedly that I can't wait for this movie. However, to post a youtube video with your brother looking like Al Sharpton as backup in the background talking about how great it is seems a bit silly to me since you haven't even seen the finished product. Total essence of what I see as a fanboy.

Actually, my brother was the one who got me into Avatar. I was always a fan of Cameron's work. But didn't know a thing about it until a few months ago. I have researched the movie extensively though. And yes, I am somewhat of a fan boy. Guilty as charged. But its something I enjoy.

If there is a Sideshow item your eagerly anticipating dont you get excited too? Im really excited for everyone else out there who didnt get to see the 15 min in Imax. They are in for a real treat.

I understand where your coming from. Don't let mine and my brothers enthusiasm make it sound as if we have seen the movie because we haven't. But I have seen 15 really cool minutes. I was a little disappointed in the trailer and thought to myself, its good but not revolutionary.

Then I watched the imax stuff. Im basing everything off that footage, the trailers, the concept artwork, interviews by people with clout, screenshots,James Cameron's reputation, and stills. There hasnt been a movie for me to excited about for a long time. Finally there is. I enjoy talking to other people who are just as excited or want to know a little about it.

I guess we all just have to wait till Dec 18th and form our own opinions. But until then, why not have fun with it. :D

Please take back the Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton thing...those guys make me nutz!

I am waiting for lots to come out! I just don't choose to judge them before they do. This movie is one of those things that I can't wait for. I may make comments about what I have seen so far but I can't say its a bad movie. Either way I still can't wait for it. I really hope it's good!
