James Cameron does George Lucas........they are made for each other. That will be Avatar's downfall

What? No comment on the pretty photos I uploaded :)

It's not that hard to tell is probably going to be a little better of a story and acting, then any of the new SW movies for sure lol
So that's one up on Lucas right there.

People complain too much. I love all these guys - Spielberg, Lucas, Cameron. They do what they want, they push technical boundaries, love telling stories and just make cool movies.

Gotta love cinema. :D

Some of those changes were so minute, I don't even understand why they changed them at all.

More realistic lighting and vegetation. Some scenes were too perfect, sharp, and bright. For instance the inside of the cargo ship jake wheels out on was too brightly lit inside. The forest in the background didnt match the rest of pandora.

Oh yeah, and Cameron is a perfectionist. :)

Windows 7 is a full 360 from Vista. I woudln't worry too much.
IN fact, anyone still running Vista, I would switch ASAP.
Win7 is very light and smooth for me.
Running 64-bit version.

James Cameron does George Lucas........they are made for each other. That will be Avatar's downfall

George Lucas has wooden acting in his movies. He also fills the screen with CG just because he can. At least Cameron has a track record of good casting and using different elements such as CG to help tell the story.

No comparison if you look at the overall filmography of Cameron. You are uninformed my friend :)

I saw the new trailer, and it looks better than previous leaked material I've seen, but I'm still not convinced that this is going to revolutionize movies or whatever it is Cameron is expecting. If his argument is that you will forget that what you are seeing is CG, I don't think that will happen for me. The characters still look and act "fake" to me. Better than Lucas's work? Sure. But I still think the Jurassic Park dinosaurs looked more like they were "real" than these things, as did the aliens in District 9, based on what I've seen.

As for Cameron's track record, I think it is important to remember that he's not made a non-documentary movie for over 10 years! People can give him the benefit of the doubt based on his past accomplishments, but a lot of time has passed. As a general rule of thumb, as artists get older, their work tends to decline in quality. Plus, Cameron has such an ego, and has made so much money now that I can't imagine he has subordinates or producers critically questioning anything he does. That could be bad.

K, first of all-As far as revolutionizing movies that is something we will have to wait and see. There have always been points in time or movies that are looked at as raising the bar in the cinematic timeline. Star Wars, Matrix.....Avatar? You get the idea.

If you think the characters act and move fake then you are basically saying that human beings do not move life like. That really doesn't make sense. These characters were motion captured on their faces and their bodies. Other than a scene or two of them jumping off a cliff or something-its actually the actors performances with a CG paint job.
If you are into the story you will buy into the characters and you wont be distracted by the CG. Some scenes are photo real. Some closeups even look like actors in makeup. This is the best CG to date bar none. And that statement comes from many in the industry.

The 10 years he has "taken off" from the big screen he was inventing, developing, and testing out in the field the new fusion camera which is bringing live action to 3D in the best format that has ever been done. To not have things jump out at you but rather pull you in to the experience. Avatar day proved that briefly.

"As a general rule of thumb, as artists get older, their work tends to decline in quality."- I'm not quite sure where you are getting that. It looks to be quite the opposite. The only artists that get worse with time are those that are not willing to change and migrate to the new methods and technology of story telling. With this project I would have to disagree with that statement.

Cameron put a lot of his own money into this project. He does not like the suits and he will be the first to tell you "the hell with everyone"- Its his movie, his story, he is a perfectionist and I don't think he would be slacking in the least on a story he has been waiting to make for 14 years.

If someone is not psyched about this movie based on the new trailer than I don't think anything will change that. However, the new trailer did ease the concerns of many who disliked the first one.

The marketing on this is genius. Avatar day, different trailers with different scenes for different countries, Toy line with 3d itags, coke tie in with itag coke cans, showing the new trailer at Cowboys stadium on the largest screen in the world in HD, Fox showing the trailer during the cowboy game on tv and the during the world series, and much more to come.

You REALLY like James Cameron... don't you!

I have just read and seen several interviews. I do like the majority of his films though and I'm excited about this film. It's been a while since there has been a movie that I really looked forward to seeing. Critics are calling this the movie of the decade.

Dark Knight was good and it had the whole Heath Ledger thing going for it. But its one of those movies I can't really see more than once. I can't get over Christian Bales gruff voice. It gets far too embarrassing after a while. Avatar will lend itself to multiple viewings simply because there is so much in it. I watched the trailer several times and found something new each time. I like movies like that.

And I consider myself the moderator of this thread bringing new info for you guys so of course I continually give updates on the film and what new news I have and have done so for a few months now. Marketsaw.com has the latest news on the film and everything 3D coming to the screen btw.

Avatard? Yes, admittedly so. But to each his own. :)

I admit I'm very much looking forward to seeing it, and I do have high hopes it will be good. But I also admit JC is not one of my favourite directors. I think he has some good ideas and is very competent at what he does, but judging on the track record so far, then Nolan does have a slight edge, for me anyway. I know a movie like Memento wouldn’t necessarily interest Cameron to direct, but I just can't see him making a movie that is purely story driven rather than a ‘spectacle’, and that does bother me about him… a bit!

But I guess the old addage, 'stick with what you know', could be used here.

Cameron likes the military and science. That is a recurring theme in many of his movies. With Avatar he is revisiting that passion.

So yes, he is sticking to what he knows...lol
