Damn, the aliens looks so fake (particulary their eyes and the way they move). And what about the hero speech at the end to rally the troops that we've been seing for the 100th time since Braveheart ...So many cliché...caca.

Yeah, eyes are what often ruin a CG character for me. I don't understand why eyes aren't focused on and perfected in CG, because it's human nature to look into another's eyes - whether that's a real, physical being or a character in a movie. When the eyes clearly look fake, even if the rest of the character is photo-realistic (I'm looking at you, Gollum) I get put off and taken out of the moment. I'm waiting on the HD version of the trailer to make a better judgment about the eyes, but the ultimate and final say will come when I see the movie.

You caca :lol

I feel the CG looks real enough to not distract and if anything is stylized to the Planet and the culture there which is still foreign to us. I think what throws some off is the brightness. CG is much easier when you throw in a bunch of shadows and dark features (District 9). The Na'vi are also bioluminescent. Those dots on their bodies glow somewhat so the properties of light on normal objects may not apply.

I know it's been said before, but it really does look like a video game. It's not that the quality of the cgi is bad, it's just that there is so much of it that the movie can't help but look artificial. Even so, it still has the potential to be a cool movie, just gotta turn the suspension of disbelief up to 11.

The amount of CG in the Star Wars prequels yes I can see that. This has no comparison imo. Its more along the lines of epic. CG is the only way this story could be told.

I like it. The trailer finally shows some story and emotion. It fleshes it out a bit and shows this will be an epic struggle, between two races, and the struggle inside the dude to make the right choice.

All of James Camerons other movies were not "The most epic amazing perfect movies of all time" either, so don't expect this to be.
They are all just really damn excellent and entertaining action movies.
Which is not a bad thing at all. Not in the least. And he still does it better than most.

So can't wait for this!

Don't know why people hate on CG. If I had a dreamjob I could do, it would be to be one of those people, working on some CGI shots of a movie. For us geeks and movie fans, that would be an awesome job.
I for one, love CG in a movie. The hard work and hours put into it has to be appreciated.
Make up or puppets just won't cut it for a movie like this.
And it's not different then any of the SW prequels. If anything it raises the bar again. Even if it still looks like CG to people. The effort to at least TRY is there. It's just art. Appreciate how far we have come in this field.
And so what if it does look like a video game? What? Nobody here likes cool video games or sick graphics?
Maybe there would be less complaining if Cameron just said "Well, I really love video games and movies and working with CG, so I made this movie with those elements to tell my story".

Nothing is wrong with the eyes either. They are just larger and look animal like.
Your brain is going to perceive anything you know is not real, as not real. That's part of the problem too.

OK I finally watched the trailer in HD...
Looks great!!!... I hope they don't use that crappy soundtrack though...
Dialog is pretty cheesy...
But will definitely see it @ IMAX...

For whatever reason, I love the shot in the trailer of the AMP suit firing its guns and you can see the guy inside bouncing around from the force of each blast. I think that's so awesome looking.

This coming from someone who hates it when films have guys driving a humanoid robotic machine from the inside, I.E. the bad guy in Iron Man and in District 9.

if people had been told that these blue creatures were the actors with prosthetics, people wouldn't be having the "there's too mcuh CGI" reaction.

Because you know it's cg... some people can't help but not be able to look past it.

Also... there's nothing 'fake' looking about that visual effects work. Some of the best I've seen. It looks 'different' sure... 'alien'... not what we're used to... but because it's a 9 foot tall alien, doesn't mean it automatically looks fake. These don't. Just look at those 2 high res photos posted above, those might as well be the actors with make up on.

:rock can't wait.
