I am ok with what I assume (and it is only that so far) will be a relatively weak plot; I am down for some eyecandy.

A critic that may be considered overrated but one I normally agree with ROGER EBERT GIVES IT 4 STARS

Finally went and got my tix for the midnight screening in Imax 3D, today. This has a been on my must list of movies for the past couple of years. While the first bit I saw earlier this year didn't floor me, the stuff I've seen on tv and preview during football some weeks ago really got me feeling much more excited. Considering it's James Cameron, I have all the faith in the world I will come out the theater pleased.

Not sure if you read any of the reviews, but out of the 37 positive you can count on 1 hand the number that have anything positive to say about the story. That seems to be loudly proclaiming that GREAT VISUALS is what you'll get from this.

i read the reviews by the top critics. the consensus is that while the story is familiar(or as sigourney weaver put it: "told in a classic way"), it's still flawlessly executed and emotionally engaging.

i say it again, cool visuals alone cannot get you 90% ratings. when was the last time a purely visually driven films rate that high on RT? phantom menace? transformers? 2012? christmas carol?

so, one of two things could be the case here: either avatar is SO VISUALLY MINDBLOWINGLY AWESOME that these critics, for the first time ever, favor style over substance, OR... the visuals are made more impressive because of how they're GIVEN CONTEXT BY THE STORY.

it's james cameron. that's why film lovers everywhere have high hope for avatar. from what i've witnessed in many film forums, it's easy to see the doubters/haters are usually the ones who lack film knowledge, hence their casual dismissal of cameron.

avatar is enjoying 90% rating so far. it's not blind faith anymore. you'll see it on dvd? yeah riiight...

Whatever to the bolded part. I have liked many of the mans films, but I won't blindly call something I have not seen a "masterpiece". I judge once I have seen rather than giving it praise it may or may not deserve.

And yes, I'll see it on DVD. I won't go to the movies to see it.

I think you're just pissed that this looks so much better than any of those lamo Star Wars prequels. Long live the OT.

What a blind statement. I don't think much of the SW PT even though I used a PT Jedi for my name on this board. Like I said before this may be a GREAT movie, but I refuse to be one of the masses who drools over something I have yet to see. It's one thing to be excited to see something, but it's another to pre-judge calling it a "masterpiece" before viewing IMO. I know the ball sniffers of Cameron will refuse to see it any other way though.

Yeah I refuse to call it anything until I see. Although I am excited to see it. However, if I can't find a theater to watch it in 3D then I might wait too. I'm going to call around and see if it is anywhere around here. I want to go see it but I will reserve judgment until I do.

Sorry Kit and Shai, but the way I see it, your adamant opposal to this movie is just like those who are prejudging it to be spectacular. You're making your decisions off of the same things everyone else has seen.

I think it's going to be awesome, but I don't know that for a fact. I'm no "ball-sniffer" of Cameron's (I've never seen Alien or its sequels, True Lies, or all of the Abyss.) I've only seen Titanic, and I enjoyed it.

Just humor Shai. He's just frustrated that a movie about a bunch of blue alien people got higher reviews than the movies about a giant green dude. Both of them.

I'm the first to say that both Hulk movie sucked...:dunno

I call it like I see it.And this movie will be garbage.Mark my words.

If you believe that so strongly, and you're not open to the possibility that it could be good, and you haven't seen the film, then what are you doing here?

Other than being your usual self. :)

Other than being my usual self, I'm searching for new threads to read from work.I get pay to not work at all and I must find some distraction.
Blame my Boss.

Also, I've got a morbid fascination trying to understand the people thinking this movie looks good from the previews.

That sounds both wonderful and painfully dull.

As for Avatar, well, the critics think it's pretty good, but surely that isn't an indication of a film's quality.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't want to see James Cameron crushed under the weight of his own hubris, so I'll be optimistic.

and yet you judge the film already, saying it'll not be worth your time to see it on the big screen.

it's called faith in talent. nobody's saying the movie is a masterpiece(well, not me at least. not yet.), but they're saying they have high hope that it CAN BE. people's optimism is justified simply because of cameron's solid track record.

I call it like I see it.And this movie will be garbage.Mark my words.

"garbage"? i think we have a green troll in our midst.

hmm... kit fisto is green. hulk is green. i think you're right, the green people are jealous that blue got the spotlight this time.

It's just totally stupid when someone says 'this movie is going to suck balls' without even seeing it in the first place. All it shows is shear ignorance and a low level of IQ.

truer words ne'er spoken. well said, guys.

I think the same can be said for the people that say how awesome it is when they haven't seen it yet. :lecture

Character designs suck in this movie IMO and from what i heard from the soundtrack, its Celine Dion all over again but, worse this time..that being said the love story in this is really good apparently, it will be a great movie for sure just i can't get into the look of the characters.I would have loved to instead see Cameron save the Terminator franchise from being run into the ground.

Both Hulk movie attempts (yes, they even gave this movie a 2nd chance and remade it again!!) are

EPIC FAIL™

Blue>Green This time around.

And yes the movie isn't out yet, but I always know when I'm going to enjoy a movie or not and whether it's my type or style. And from all the data I've gathered, it's going to be an amazing thing to see on the screen.
And yes, I am a fan of CGI and groundbreaking artistry and technique pushing movies forward and doing things not done before.
And yes, still a fan, even if it means a weaker or predicatable story has to follow the CGI. As long as it's not complete crap, like Transformers movie. And come on, we already know it won't be that bad.

As far as I'm concerned, if this gets even 60-65% on Rotten Tomatoes, that's considered a success on that website.

Sight unseen the movie is awesome! Guaranteed. That is my super Fanboy biased opinion ;-)

Yes, you heard me correct- I am embracing the fan boy side of the force.

All kidding aside, the trailers and featurettes-many of which I have stayed away from- are far more entertaining/impressive/exciting/cool than anything I have seen in a long while so thats what I am basing my opinion on-that and all the new technologies.

Trolls will be trolls- But Ill tell you right now, I will take my RDA A.M.P suit and put my fan-boy self right in that cockpit and stomp on any troll that poo poos this movie based on the rather crappy reasons thus far.

Rotten Tomatoes still has its TOP CRITICS rating this movie 100% which, for a sci-fi fantasy that they were bashing earlier and now renigging on is rather impressive. Not that I really listen too much to critics but for those of us that were already excited-this adds even more validation.

This movie will do very well-It has already been called a Masterpiece by none other than CHUD which regularly bashed the movie before they saw it and the majority of the critics say it matches and even further surpasses all the unrealistically high hype that has surrounded it.

Watch this on dvd....lol. I fart in your general direction :)

Your curiosity will not allow you to keep your butt out of the theater.

That is all your honor. Thank you come again.
Good afternoon, good evening, and good night!
