I saw it today. I really enjoyed it. Not Cameron's finest, but a bloody good movie none the less. The man knows how to tell a story, thats for sure. I don't think many people will walk away disappointed. The 3D is the best I have ever seen. Bits of the movie made me wish that Aliens had been able to use this tech.

look, here's the thing. some of us are excited because we know what makes cameron tick. it's not just like 'oh he's the guy that did terminator, oh okay i like that guy'. it's more like we know WHY terminator and those other films he did are great. we know his storytelling sensibility, we know his setpieces set the benchmark everytime, we know he's a perfectionist and highly devoted to his craft, etc etc.

that is why we have certain expectation for his new movie. and then the reviews and nominations start pouring in... being highly pumped up for this movie is then the most logical reasonable thing. it's far from being a blind date. it's more like the best girl you've had the best ????? with comes back to you after 12 long years. you've been missing her all that time, and now she wants to do it again with you. sure, you dont know if the ????? will be just as good this time around, her v might be sagging a bit or something. but dont tell me you're not excited over the prospect.

so you can have your doubt or whatever, but when you use excuses like song choice sucks, blue aliens sucks, teaser look retarded, etc. to not be excited over this film, then it's you who are going on a date blindly. the rest of us have had known the girl very well for sometimes now. and so when she parts her legs again, we know what to expect. see the difference between the two camps now?

Well, I guess I'm in an alternate camp. I can always not listen to a song - I don't care about the color of an alien - and a teaser trailer isn't a make or break. For me, I gauged the storyline to be a heavy-handed soap box sermon on environmental social issues. I know JC has a history of this, but Avatar seems to be shouting a message. If this is indeed the case, this will not stop me from seeing the movie, as I'm very interested in the efx. But, in contrast, this can make me not like a movie. I live in L.A., so I don't trust the critcs due to the save the world celebrity "smug" b.s.

So I guess, I'm in the "not wanting to be preached at" camp and I don't care if it's JC or anyone else.

Buuuut Celine Dion had one song in 'Titanic' and it was at the end of the film as credits rolled, soooo I personally wouldn't take such a song as an indicator of an entire score of a film. The 'Titanic' score was vastly different compared to the Celine Dion song.

That said, the credit roll song for 'Avatar' is very ho hum and not my cup of tea. Hopefully the score is good (I've heard good things), it's been a pretty dry year of good film scores, so I'm hoping for some good ear candy in the theater.

Its been years and years since i watched Titanic and i have to say thats not correct, parts of her song was played in spots during the movie just with no lyrics but, also difference here is Celine's song is much better then this one and i can't stand the fact that Cameron had to emulate this into his new film.

Really? So you don't buy movies? If I truly like a movie, I can watch it an unlimited amount of times. I may not always be in the mood to watch it, but I will at least buy it so that I can watch it whenever I want. For instance, I have seen Moulin Rouge and each of the Star Wars films dozens and dozens of times.

Yes i buy films what i meant is i couldn't go watch the same film 4 times in a row, with a dvd i don't put it in watch it then restart it 4 times.

I've seen my fave films lots of times but i need a break in between viewings. :lol

Wasn't Celine invited to watch a rough cut of Titanic before she decided to do the song? I'm not 100% on that, but I remember hearing it somewhere, like on the dvd extras or something.

I wonder if Leona Lewis had that luxury with Avatar. I bet not, considering the results. It doesn't seem like a good match. I've listened to her other stuff, and she's a fantastic vocalist, but this song...does not belong.

Yes she is. :)

but this song...does not belong.
I agree with this it just doesn't sound right and if it is the end credits i'm not bothered cos i never sit through those anyway. :D

My IQ is 129 thanks. I have said ( obviously you're too blind or stupid to read ) that this movie may be great, but that I refuse to call it a "masterpiece" before I see it. I have seen the previews and it does not look like something I will enjoy. I will see it on DVD eventually and will judge it then. My issue is with people like you who have already decided that it's a "work of art" from some lousy ( IMO ) previews.

If you can't see people in this thead already calling this film a masterpiece before seeing it then your a blind homer ( sport fan reference ). I never once said this movie is going to "suck balls". I don 't know if it's good or lousy yet. I base my initial thoughts on the previews, but will reserve final judgement until I see it eventually. Many on the opposing side have already set their minds to "masterpiece" though. Whatever.

Um dude, I did say that the comment WAS NOT targeted towards you. And you think I'm blind and stupid. Watching Avatar on dvd would be like watching Star Wars on a PSP with a black and white screen. I'd call it a waste of time, just like talking to you.

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

Sorry for the new thread :D

Awesome, this word is not strong enough to qualify this movie :banana

Since Star Wars and Lord of the Ring I've seen anything as powerful :google

The movie just passed a new visual dimension
After the transition from black and white to color, a new stage just been reached with AVATAR!

unknown leads, classic story of good vs evil, groundbreaking sfx... sounds more like star wars new hope to me.[/QUOTE]

Sounds like just about every movie that comes out these days.

So the story itself is strong and not just the visuals ?.

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

History is simply like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, but the narrative power of Cameron coupled to the image makes this film a work absolutely unique in its universe and the emotion emerges!

Do you ask more questions, go live this dream awake on Pandora, believe me when the credits appear, we just want it to plunge into this world amazing!

(sorry for my bad english)

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

I saw this 10 minute look at the movie on HBO, I was impressed. I only watched one trailer b4 that and thought it looked sort of gay but the inside look changed my mind. The marines or w/e look alot like Halo and the blue thing actors motion capture is impressive, especially in the faces. I'll give this movie a chance but I'm not expecting too much.
