LOVED IT!!!!!!

Best experience since Fellowship of the Ring IMO.

It was an amazing ride and everything looked so real. Incredible. I wish Horner's score was more memorable but it worked...just no real main themes.

Creatures on Pandora rocked. Loved it. Cameron did go into a bit too much "indian history" for parts of it...my biggest complaint.

The last hour is so freakin' intense. I felt like I was on a ride. ;)

Saw it in 3D on the Cinemark XD.

Dude! Saw it in Cinemark XD too in Plano Texas. That screen is rediculous!

I've not seen any of the recent 3D films that have been out over the last year or two.... y'know when they do those on blu-ray, do they transfer them to the traditional red/green system or something? Can they do the polarized image thing at home?

Marketsaw.com posted a couple days ago that the industry has finally come up with a blu-ray 3D standard so we will be able to watch 3D movies at home on tvs with 120hz and up. AVATAR might be the first blu-ray to employ that. No red and blue glasses like Coraline

Shockingly Avatar isn't doing as well as studios expected opening to only $3 million midnight despite a record number of venues and higher cost Imax tickets. To put that into perspective New Moon made $26.3 off midnight showings. I know it doesn't have a built in following but they better hope this thing has some legs if it's going to break even. I predicted this to be the biggest movie of the year in a pool so it better get on it's horse. You guys got to see it about 50 more times will you!

Actually 3.5 million just at midnight. On track to rake in well over 80 MIL for the weekend.

As much as I loved it, I doubt it makes its money back. This is only Day 1, though, so time will tell.

Just like Titanic, word or mouth and repeat viewings will aid it in making its money back. Its a longer film. Don't forget though-you can charge more for 3D screenings.

Then tie in the merchandising and eventually dvd/blu ray. Trust me, they are going to be fine.

Snowstorm in the Northeast this weekend is going to cut into this movie's numbers.

How many times have you seen it so far?

I saw the midnight showing in XD which is bigger than IMAX. I'm letting it marinate in my brain for a bit, then I will see what it looks like in IMAX and eventually 2D.

I think the first time around I was concentrating so hard on all the visual elements and CG and the realism of it all-that im sure I missed a lot. Its def a movie you could catch so much more the second time around.

Hey guys,

I plan to go see this tonight but I am a little confused as to how to watch it? Do I see this at Imax 3D or in the theater 3D ??? What's the difference besides that Imax has a bigger screen ?

saw this...visually excellent and entertaining

flaws- Gaia mother worship and voo-do new age occult, becoming ONE with Nature and the idea of inbreeding human DNA with Alien (fallen angels).Illuminated one-James Cameron excels showing his new age beliefs/Ideas

According to the Dictionary, the meaning of word/title 'Avatar' came up with these 3 definitions

1. the incarnation of a Hindu deity (false god)
2. an incarnation in human form ; an embodiment (as of a concept or philosophy) often in a person3. a variant phase or version of continuing basic entity
3. a variant phase or version of continuing basic entity

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude! You never stop...

BTW, I'm probably overthinking things, but this is an interesting thought I had:

Pandora assimilated Jake. None of the other Avatars were that involved with the local population, not even Cage. Sure, they were intrigued by it and wanted to establish good relationships, but Jake was the only one who went far. Why was that? Especially when he was pleased with his old life, and was going to get his legs back? But it was hinted at in the movie that he was the first Avatar to actually use that neuro-upload thing, or at least repeatedly.

What if the planet used him, began overwriting his human self, so that it would have a weapon against those invading it's "body"? It was quite easy after all: A "pure" heart is the easiest to 'corrupt', and his disability made it even easier for him to get 'lost'. Then, at the end, he is 'rewarded' by having his human self killed so that the planet can upload his memories and personality into his Avatar form, since it was already said that they only upload memories, not their actual souls.

As for the others; well, it was easy for them to be manipulated as well thanks to their involvement with Jake. Maybe Quadritch either knew or suspected all of this as well, having been on the planet for so long and having seen how hostile it is, and he is certainly not a foolish man.

Very interesting theory.

My local imax is gay and isn't showing it. The only imax in the area and they are still on Christmas Carol. The pukes!
