That model posted above is the only time I've ever actually seen the "purplish" hue people always mention the '89 car having. Or maybe it's just reflecting the light that way. Kind of interesting. As for the wheels, they clearly look bronze or brass(I think they overdid it on the the jazzinc - no offense) in the stills and promo shots

I also believe there were multiple cars, so depending on which one, there were some slight differences

What model is this one?
Yes, they made 2 cars for the 89 movie. There could be differences but there isn't al lot of information out there about that.

I believe the model was the large scale model that was used for the Axis Chemicals scenes but I can't confirm that.

So.....if you watch one of the making of documentaries, there is a bit with John Evans. You can see the cars in the background in the process of being built. The wheels are the original bright chrome as they would have come from the manufacturer. They were obviously painted before filming. I mentioned before that they to my eyeballs they have always looked like a gunmetal color or a charcoal-ish gray. A darker color, not black.

Also, I think (not 100% sure) that this picture below is the original filming model for the Axis Chemicals scenes. I could be wrong. Maybe this was just a studio scale replica that was made. Or maybe it's the real thing but the wheels were re painted or restored for some reason. Anyway, the wheels on this are very dark and they closely matches the photos of the full size car that I posted previously.

Another thing about the the full size cars. It's not just the lighting you have to be aware of on set. Even when they aren't at their full level of shine, they will reflect a little bit of color from the objects, buildings, and various junk that is opposite of them.

This was the miniature Batmobile used for the scenes at Axis Chemicals.......:)

Here's screen capture from the video of John Evans that I referenced earlier. This is what the wheels looked like in their original state. Very bright shiny chrome.

In this photo where the car is sitting in front of the museum you can arguably see some brownish bronze color on the wheels. Maybe.

But, look at the very front of the car on the body lines. The car has the brownish copper color too, perhaps even more than the wheels. So, you have the special paint on the car, you have the movie lighting, but the car and the wheels also reflect a bit of the color of the set and whatever is opposite of it. It's all very deceiving.

I brought up this exact same thing weeks ago and it was totally brushed off as if I didn't know what I was talking about...even though I have hundreds of reference photos of the car and even shared some with Joost via e-mail. Ultimately I don't think the gold rims look correct and when I get my car I'm going to paint them. I have no intention of selling it so I'm not concerned what that might do the resale value. I honestly don't believe the production car had gold rims and some shots in certain lighting gave a false impression of them being that color, but let's be honest...would Batman put gold rims on an otherwise all black car? Of course not!

Yes he would, he just did that so he could pull Vicki Vale.

Yeah. I'm with you. The whole thing is very odd and doesn't make a ton of sense to me, but whatever.

Perhaps I will yet be proven wrong with some more conclusive evidence. Thus far I'm not seeing it.

Not that it’s the best example but my 2003 1/18 Hot Wheels ‘89 has slightly bronzed wheels:

If the Wheels on the Jazzinc Batmobile looked like that I wouldn't even have mentioned anything. If there is some bronze/copper/gold/whatever there it's very subtle. From the videos that I've seen like the one from Mr Mom Collectables, the Jazzinc wheels seem much brighter.

Yeah, I agree. It definitely stands out, and I’m nitpicking at this point but it’s a stunning piece and absolute gorgeous vehicle that Jazzinc produced

It is a stunning piece. I feel grateful to live in a time where an 89 Batman product of this quality is available. It's only been a fantasy for me over the last 35 years. All I had as a kid was the Toy Biz Batmobile with the open canopy and the Ertle 1:64 scale that inexplicably had a big yellow batman logo on it. lol.

Totally agree. This piece is still a solid 9.5 out of 10 for me, but I think if the wheel color was more screen accurate it would have been a perfect 10.
