Thought it was average. About on par with the Clash of the Titans remake. The princess chick has a rockin' body though.

Just saw it...I liked it...Great film...Hoping for a sequel too

It was a "meh" for me. Had it's moments and kept me entertained up until I fell asleep... Should have gone to 21 jumpstreet instead. Oh well.

Say what you will, but I heard good things about 21 Jump Street. And alot more people went to go see that than John Conner. I mean Carter.

^ 21 Jumpstreet was a lot more fun then John Carter. Go see it, and make up your mind. :lol

The trailer is nothing...NOTHING like the movie. :D

Orly? That's good then... because the previews don't make me want to see that movie at all. :lol

That's why we should not expect studios to take any chances or risks on new or unfamiliar properties in the near future. We are going to keep getting remakes and reboots and film versions of old TV shows because the studios want some sort of familiar element to their films with a reasonable budget. It will be a while before we get another big budget sci-fi/fantasy that isn't a sequel or remake, but we will get a recycled movie version of Alf or Golden Girls or Quantum Leap or Mork and Mindy.

However, John Carter has already earned about $180 million worldwide after two weeks. So it's not going to be the colossal flop that its detractors want it to be.

There's a line that actually says exactly what you just said. 21 Jumpstreet is a pretty clever movie. A lot more then it should've been.

:lecture Yes!! After this weekend I expect John Carter's numbers to start nosediving, but I'm sure that word of mouth will help it sell some more tickets.

I'm confused. Isn't John Carter an old movie or old story or something? Why do the trailers say it inspired Star Wars?

Disney's problem isn't how much money the movie is making. The problem is they spent too much upfront.

It's difficult to imagine how that money was spent. The visuals are all well done, if not a bit too derivative of the SW prequels. I suspect quite a bit of that money found it's way to Disney executive salaries.

Another possibility is the cost of cancelled projects might be reflected in the cost of this production. Disney has tried several times previously to make A Princess of Mars into a film. Studios only get to write off those costs at tax time once the film is made, otherwise they eat it. eg: Superman Returns was rumored to have a 200 million dollar budget a few years ago. Bryan Singer later revealed the truth was the cost of the aborted Tim Burton and McG films were rolled into his production's bottom line.

I cry for America if people like 21 Jump Shark better than John Carter.

Pretty much

yeah, it appears that way. People IMO are missing out on a true gem of a film.

Edgar Rice Burroughs created the character 100 years ago. Many filmmakers such as Lucas and Cameron have been inspired by the books and have incorporated pieces of the lore into their films over the years. But the general public isn't really familiar with the character or books from a century ago.

Nope. I wasn't. Download a Kindle app on your PC and download "Princess of Mars" for free. It's a fun read!!! I miss when action/adventure movies weren't so dark, realistic, or depressing.

This movie sounds great. I still haven't seen it. This week or weekend for sure :)
