Too many sheep believe what some idiot critic says and take their word as gospel instead of forming their own opinion of something be it a movie, book or music. :slap

I loathe critics.

This movie is fun and what going to the movies is all about, IMO.

Two things.

Critics do have a point. And it's not just about you. Or everyone. It's also about the Filmmaker. Do you think he/she would go on movie forums and read reviews there? No. Well, some do. But they read the critic reviews. I'm assuming. If they're not too arrogant, or they know their film will be panned by critics, they'll listen, and take note. It's a GOOD thing to be told when you do something wrong. You improve.

Now, I also think they are important as well for normal people. True, don't be a tool and take the critics word for it. But that doesn't mean you should ignore them. Unless you're dead set on seeing the film.

They also work when you have two films you want to see, but only enough cash for one. Pick the one with the better reviews. That movie could be better, or worse. But ultimately it's your call.

Now, movies being fun is not 100% what it's all about. Some of the best movies ever made aren't....fun ones. That doesn't mean that entertaining movies are bad. Hell no! I'm a huge fan of goofy dumb ____. I think that's a part of going to the movies. But it's not the whole thing. Sometimes movies are made to move you, enlighten you, make you feel something. It IS an art form.

So yeah. I disagree that critics are bad. If a movie is good, and the word of mouth is good, the movie can do fine. I disagree with critics a lot, but that doesn't mean they aren't right sometimes. I loved Transformers 3. But does that make the critics wrong it's a total piece of dog ____? Nope. It is.

They can be wrong...ish...too. Does it mean that this movie is a horrible stupid piece of crap either? Nope. It's not. It's just opinions. Like ours. Only they're more public about it.

I'm just all talkity this week. Or typity. :D

I dunno. I wouldn't give any money to post converts. It's just paying for half-assed.

I give props to Stanton for not being a tool, and filming it like a real movie.

Critics get paid to blab. Sometimes they get paid to blab by rival studios. In the end I just personally don't care what they have to say. I make up my own mind by the trailers and friends whose two cents means something to me on a movie.

That's fine. But it's not all about you. It's just opinions. No different then here. And sometimes filmmakers use them to get better.

I don't know what proof you have of these payments, because I think that's pretty stupid. Especially against huge company like Disney, who pretty much OWNED last summer anyway.

Critics have their place. You don't have to listen to them. But people do, because they're not movie fans, or they don't have the budget.

And you shouldn't make up your mind about trailers. You think critics lie to you? The trailers are deceiving a-holes in comparison. :lol
And they're getting more and more manipulative.

Yes, when I go to see a movie it is all about me. So that's why when I look for opinions on a movie I go to trailers and people whose opinions I care about.

It may not happen but I'd almost bet my life that it does. We know studios have faked reviewers before so this isn't out of the realm.

They do and I don't. People don't have to listen to them but they opt to that's all.

I don't use trailers to make my sole decision but more as a starting point. Then I go to people whose opinion I respect and decide if I want to see it. Usually, I just make up my mind I want to see something and if I like it I like it and if I don't I don't.

Seeing movies is about you. But critics aren't.

If someone doesn't like a film I do, and they say "I didn't like this because you did this, and this, and this." I would listen and try to understand how to make it better.

Unless they don't like the things I did on purpose, which that happens too. A kid didn't like a zombie movie I made because he thought it was too gross. Well, that doesn't really affect the story, so I didn't really take his opinion to consideration.

But if you're in the art game, at least I think so, you want someone to tell you what you did right, and what you did wrong.

That's why I think critics exist. My two favorites are Spill.com, and RedLetterMedia. I normally agree with them. Sometimes not, but me and them, are usually on the money. Just find one or two critics you agree with, and see what they say. It's not a bad thing to listen to opinions. That's why I'm here. In a thread to a movie I just didn't care for. I enjoy reading why you guys liked it. To see why didn't. To talk about it.

That's why movies are so much fun for me. They're not just a thing I do and then move on. It's a passtime.

Yeah I am trying to understand where I went wrong with this movie also. So far I have not seen anything to make me consider my very poor score for this.

I get that they don't write for me or to me. Either way they don't factor into my decision process to see something or not see something. I will peak at what they say when its brought up by someone whose two cents I care about.

I love going to the movies. I love venturing into those worlds and seeing whats going on in them. I just don't really use professional critics opinions as my starting point.

Hey, and I don't disagree. If every critic said Prometheus was the worst film ever made, would that stop me? Hell no.

I was just saying they indeed have a purpose. And I feel sorry for those who only take the critics word.
