Well, considering the fact that he is a fantastic actor.....who can blend into any role, and be anything, except Depp...sorta makes him pretty ^^^^ing great.
I absolutley agree. He's been in alot of good stuff but he's not a great actor. ppl dote over him more than Bale and Bale is by far a more commited and better actor. He will starve himself to play a skinny guy,he will walk around for days talking like a gangster to get his voice down etc... Depp wasn't anything special until Jack Sparrow and now all the little girlies think he's hot so he's the next big thing.
I like Depp but there's alot of hype behind him that he isn't deserving of.
Sorry bro I literally laughed out loud when I read this, if anything Bale is the overrated actor. I like Bale but he is no "great" actor by any means. Depp is alot better than Bale. If the ladies love Depp it shouldn't take away from how awesome he is. Christian Bale is a very good actor but imo there are far more important element to be deemed a "great" actor.
Losing tons of weight for a role proves perceverance but doesn't label him method. If Bale didn't have the "lisp" he'd be something more.
Well me and you disagree, bro. I don't see in anyway how Depp is better. I like Depp, I'm not being hard on him cause he sucks or something but starving yourself and only allowing yourself a cup of coffee a day so you legitly starv (like the character you're playing) takes more talent and drive then playing Edward Scissorhands or a pirate. Bale is a more dedicated actor by far. Depp's the guy who reads his lines and makes the character. Bales the guy who becomes the character.
If losing and gaining weight is what makes a great actor, then Tom Hanks is the best actor that ever lived.

Could Depp play the exact same roles that Bale has done? Yes. Could Bale play Edward Scissorhands and Donnie Brasco? No. Depp is similar to Deniro, he can play any role. Bale is good but doesn't have the "sound" that would make him an all around legend. He's got the look, yes. He's got the intensity, yes. He does not have that sound, his speech is similar to Keanu Reeves.
Excellent entertainer and always portrays an amazing performance but when compared to Depp, he falls short. Still I love the guy, he doesn't come even close to sucking ................. just a bit overrated.
I respect your opinion .............. even if you're a European.
no german suplexes for me please I can get what you're saying but when I saw Bale play a maniac (american Psycho) and then be a paranoid insomniac (machinist) and then a gangster (harsh times) he sold me. He just seems to nail whatever gets thrown at him IMO I get what you're saying though

While DeNiro was very very good he could not play any role much like most if not all actors. The greatest actor of them all Brando could not play the Riddler.
Some actors are a once horse pony and it might take such an actor to play the Riddler. Personally I would pick Norton but I could see the studios having a problem with him having already played Bruce Banner. If I were them I would look beyond that problem.
I don't think our discussion was necessarily directed towards if Deniro or Brando could play specifically the Ridler. Its not really a fair anology, both actors (Deniro and Brando) grew up during a completely different era, while Depp and Bale are more tuned to todays current styles.
If Brando or Deniro were offered to play the role of Riddler in the 60's or 70's sure the could pull it off. Deniro played Frankensteins monster and even another good example Pacino played a role that was nominated for an Academy Award (^^^^ Tracy)
So imo (depending on eras of course) actors like Deniro, Pacino and Brando could play any role. Its just not fair to compare the old actors to todays films. They've aged and lack the required youth to pull off such a performance.
IMO a "Great" actor can play any role and again when comparing Depp to Bale Depp has the edge.
I would agree with you though, I think we need a no name to play this role, someone that was born to play it. Sure Depp could pull it off but it would always be nice to enjoy a performance from someone fresh you know nothing about.
People said the same thing about Christopher Walken. I'm just sayin.
IMO....
Depp >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bale
I don't think Bale could pull off comedy as well as Depp could.
