Re: Jurassic World

This was a monster movie and NOT the dinosaur movie I was hoping to see. Not sure how I felt about that. The new Dinosaur was not that much bigger than the T. rex. They describe it to be huge. If this was real life I would look at it shrug my shoulders and say Ok what's the next exhibit.

Re: Jurassic World

Just got back... First my history with the JP series.

Jurassic Park - As most I LOVED it when I first saw it. I still enjoy it greatly but I don't give it the classic status many people do. Having said that JP still has the most exciting and intense Dino scenes. T-Rex first appearance is still King.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park - Like most I was disappointed after my first viewing... However I have found that the years have been Kind to that movie for me. I love the main Hunter and always feel bad for the guy who got ate by the two T-Rex's (still the only character that I cared about being taken out by a Dino). I love me some Ian Malcolm and this film had more... In some ways I like this more then the original. Take the Intense Dino scenes from the first film and add them in here and it would be almost perfect. Oh and I think the score for this film is outstanding and better then the original. Just get rid of Ian's Gymnastic kid and I think more would enjoy this more.

JPIII - I didn't hate it upon first viewing and thought it was fine brainless entertainment. But it does not hold up. Still it's a Dino film so not all is lost. :)

Jurassic World - While watching it I really enjoyed it... When It was over I could not help but feel let down. It was missing something... And for me it was missing that intensity of the first T-rex scene or the Kitchen scene from the first film.... it was great Dino fun but only once was I a tad on the edge of my seat. Overall though... I would say this is tied for second... But will have to wait for repeat viewings to give it that ranking by itself or drop it to third.

But I can see enjoying this more with repeat viewings... Was possibly most excited for this film this summer due to the long layoff of JP movies.

There are so many classic moments, finally a movie where you want to see so many parts over and over again. I loved the very last scene too. :)

That is a bit higher praise then I would give it... But I did enjoy it... I think I just saw too many of the "classic" moments coming. One of those moments I thought should have been used back when I saw JPIII. But I may appreciate those moments more with a second viewing.

How crazy that two of the most entertaining films of the year are part FOUR in their respective franchises.

LOL... True... I am thinking a part 5 might also be one of the more entertaining of the year also with the new Mission Impossible.

I think this is the type of movie that can easily rub any given person the wrong way.

As the guy said above "Jurassic World is no-holds-barred SF/horror/action with none of the staring-up-at-a-special-effect-in-awe tone of the first three films. This is a drive-in movie, slightly unhinged from page one, with some truly hissable human villains and some outrageous monster characters."

Indeed. And you're either on board for that kind of thing or you're going to being going "what the ****" for two straight hours. I'm one of those that is so, so on board for what they did.

I was on board... And I liked it... This will make for fun repeat viewings.

Ultron was terrible...this rocked.

Agreed... Well I don't know about Rocked.... But it was very good :)

Ok, where to start.

Why did this movie work?

Because it straddled the fun/thrilling - cheesy/dumb line like a boss!

It could've so easily tipped over into the nonesensical eye rolling side with just the slightest of nudge, BUT IT DIDN'T!

That's the secret weapon of this movie, it remained charming instead of annoying.

The fast pace helped this movie instead of hindering it.

Everyone here knows that evil Comcast owns Universal, right?

Holy crap, Comcast using Verizon as the butt of a joke on corporation take over was LOL for me.

This movie proves that a fun thrill ride which embraces its wackiness can easily overcome any short falls that can arise from cardboard characters.

Speaking of which, the character arc for that CEO was hilarious.

Imagine the CEO of Comcast flying a helicopter to attack a monster on the loose. :lol

Not only does that show you that you have to be an eccentric wack job to be funding and running a dinosaur company after the events of JP1, it also shows you that Hammond is still king of the wackos, at least he made it off the island.

That ladies death, yowza!

Can't wait to take my wife and son to this.

I agree 100% with this statement. That's the secret weapon of this movie, it remained charming instead of annoying.

This film could have gone too a bad place but it managed to stay afloat and above being an eye rolling viewing.

Re: Jurassic World

I will also add that I had them crank the sound at the IMAX and man, the floor was rumbling when the dinosaurs would roar. It really added to the intensity IMO.

You could feel the tension in the theater on two scenes with the hybrid dinosaur. The audience also cheered on two key scenes toward the end. Great crowd at my first viewing. Applause at end and everyone was taking about it. Second viewing the audience was not nearly as enthusiastic but still enjoyed it.

I need to revisit LW, its been a very long time.

Re: Jurassic World

I have always loved The Lost World....minus the black girl. No need at all for her character. She just annoys me in every one of her scenes.

I really did not expect to enjoy Jurassic World as much as Lost World but I indeed liked it better. I am still shocked how much I loved it. :) I will not post any spoilers but there were so many scenes I enjoyed.
As for JP3, hated it since the first time in the theater. It just did not work for me at all and still doesn't. Easily the worst of the series.

Going for a third viewing of Jurassic World next week. I have not done that with a movie since the original JP in 1993.

Re: Jurassic World

Did the

T-Rex not sound the same as JP1 because of her age? I was hoping for her same roar, would've made her entry even better.

It sounded the same for sure to me or at least very close! Chills from that ending scene!

Re: Jurassic World

Just got back and I enjoyed the hell out of it!
Made me want to go back and watch all three earlier films.

I agree with what's been said: the movie manages to stay charming throughout the entire duration. No mean feat with so many places where it could fail.
Well done!

I'll see on my 2nd viewing tomorrow.

The ending of this reminded me of the ending of Godzilla but in Godzilla the reunion didn't move me like it did in this one.

Re: Jurassic World

I just asked my 8 year old what she thought the scariest parts of the movie were and she said:

When the woman was eaten by the Mososaurus and when the Raptors turned on the men in the forest. Two raptors couldn't take a T-Rex in JP1 so the security team seemed like even with four that they were still underdogs against Indominous. But to then have the four dinos that would barely even the odds, if at all, suddenly JOIN the unkillable super beast? That was a true HOLY **** moment. After they set up that Raptors look at what they're about to eat and the nightvision cameras suddenly showed nothing but the faces of all the men....damn!

Re: Jurassic World

Not sure if I wanna see this in the theater anymore. I liked the first movie. I thought the second movie was absolute garbage. And I actually enjoyed the third JP despite Tea Leoni's voice. But the more I hear about this flick, the more I see that the initial trailers and promotion seemed to portray a different kind of film. It looked serious with lots of tension, etc. But now I'm reading that it's a goofball, cheese-fest, kiddie flick with Starlord acting like an asshat. But charming. :slap

I like the first movie, don't care for the second and third ones. Loved this one. For me the "silliness" is mostly in retrospect, because the final hour is almost one "oh ****" moment after another. It IS very high concept though, so you need to decide if you're going to go along for the ride because if not, well, yeah it probably won't be your cup of tea.

Re: Jurassic World

So it's not cheesy? Are people focusing on that, when it's actually minor? Because JP III had some cheesy moments but overall (for me) I wouldn't describe it that way.
