I'm primarily just stressed out if these new SW movies will ruin OT characters.

It's all fan service. It's like reading the Star Wars comics after the films came and went back in the day. They don't affect the OT one way or the other to me. They are fun to watch, and then pretty disposable, like just about everything else entertainment-wise nowadays. Half the time the movies are just made to build up hype for the next sequel/prequel/spinoff/theme park.

Nah I know where guys like EF and kara stand on these new movies. All that matters is that they keep up their due diligence by purchasing one or more tickets each and every year to line Disney's coffers for the next film.

So far Vader is the clear winner and benefactor:

Vader: Made even better how was that even possible!

Luke: TBD

Han: He was already tainted in ROTJ so he improved...ever so slightly though.

Leia: Same as Han

R2D2: Broke even

C3PO: Better than his time in the PT so an improvement but really just broke even with his OT persona.

I would say that Leia has even experienced a slight uptick in coolness on account of her now being present at the Battle of Scarif. Also Chewie who I think is cooler after his murderous rage when Han died.

For OT side characters that have appeared in the Disney films I would say:

Tarkin: Cooler

Mon Mothma: Cooler

General Dodonna: Slightly less cool

Red and Gold Leaders: Much cooler!

Dr. Evazan and Walrusman: Laaaaame

Admiral Ackbar: The same

Nien Nunb: Slightly cooler

Actually, let me rephrase that: members' predictions as to how much money each film will make will be more entertaining than either movie. If JL flops then TLJ is guaranteed the "Box Office King" no matter how good or bad it is (and in all fairness, I think we can all see that coming a mile away).
