Yeah, that's what WB is hoping for. Movies that please the fans & critics, but don't make loads of cash...
I agree with what you are saying, but don't believe for a moment that's what the WB Execs discuss in their meetings.
If that had any truth to it, they would've done it right from the beginning. But no, they didn't want to build a cohesive universe where viewers cared about the characters. They skipped over the ground work and wanted to jump right into the Finale. They wanted to go right into the billion dollar blockbuster, which is that they thought BvS would be.
And how could it not??? Batman, Superman, & Wonder Woman ALL on the big screen together for the 1st time in history. The trinity of the most beloved DC characters in the world!!!..... Ok, that didn't work. So lets throw even more heroes in there. We'll give the fans the Justice League. We'll add The Flash, Aquaman & replace Green Lantern with Cyborg (who?) since the Green Lantern movie was a failure (cause we guess no one likes Green Lantern). They don't need their own movies first. But that's gonna take time, so lets make a movie about a group of Villains nobody has ever heard of before to hold them over. Even though it has nothing to do with the upcoming JL movie, but we'll throw in a cameo of The Batman, since people loooove them some Batman. And just for ****s & giggles we'll make a Wonder Woman movie (the fluke of the DCEU in that is was a decent movie) since the audience at least seemed to like her few moments in BvS. The audience will eat this **** up.....
The fact that Aquaman is even getting his own movie before Batman & The Flash is a total joke. And after Aquadude, we get to see Shazam then the eventual Black Adam.... Some of the most anticipated DC movies of all time...
WB/DC's biggest failure was they were trying to make typical Hollywood movies, not Comic Book movies. They don't seem to understand the difference. The WB Execs must be crying themselves to sleep after IW in it's opening weekend out grossed JL's entire domestic run, and is already only a few $mil away from it's total worldwide gross. What a shame.
