Well Skiman hasn't come back to the thread in a while, does that count???

On a side note, I am doing what I can to fight this atrocity.

Last night I had a grilled veggie steak sandwich - YUM!

and now I am eating whole wheat waffles with Greek yogurt, blueberries and almonds.

:D

My lunch was probably worse than this sandwich today. I had half a pepperoni and ham calzone. There was sooo much cheese and meat. Plus they covered the top with garlic butter.

I'll exercise in my next life, but this life I'm going down in a blaze of glory.

I once had 7 whoppers in two days, I look forward to eating this badboy!

Thats fking crazy. lol I feel bad about eating 1 whopper in a month. lol

Actually I enjoyed his post. It was a brilliant reiteration of just how much I enjoy food like the Double-Down over stuff like...

veggie-anything.:D

Veggie anything is terrible. And your avatar is so nasty. lol

So...... I'm here at work and I had heard through the grapevine that a co-worker bought both a grilled and original Double Down the other day. He had the grilled that day and the original the next. Anyway, he tells me they were both delicious, which doesn't surprise me.

We get to talking and that leads to us looking up nutritional info on various burgers. A Whopper with cheese is worse than a double down (44 fat 720 cal 1240 sod). Carl's Jr Super Star with Cheese, way worse (58 fat, 920 Cal, 1640 mg sodium). Whopper Meal, large fry and a Coke came to 71 g fat, and 1650 cal and 2080 mg sodium.... So all in all I'd say the media hype around this Double Down is nothing short of hypocritical... Why don't existing fast food sandwiches garner such negative scrutiny? Moreover, why don't new burgers? Carl's Jr's brand new Grilled Cheese Bacon Six Dollar Burger has 610 calories and 69 grams of fat.... oh yeah, and 2280 mg of sodium. Incredible.

Yeah - A stool from a Double-Down does make you feel like you accomplish something over one from anything veggie.

:dump

Speaking from experience...

Just a quick update.

It's about 27 hours since my Double Down meal. I've had 2 BM's :dump and they were both quite normal. :) No "oily discharge" or anything else out the the ordinary.

I did have some minor indigestion that lasted about 15 minutes, an hour after the DD, but not bad enough to eat the Rolaids in my pocket. I've had worse indigestion from a handful of corn chips. :lecture

:banana:banana:banana

Hmm, that's about 2 white meat chicken breasts, about 4 strips of bacon, and 4 slices of cheese.

Admitedly a lot of food, but probably better for you than the average double bacon cheese burger. In fact I would go as far as saying that this is health food. :lecture

Bring on the hurt Ski, and Eli!:monkey3:monkey3

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!!

This is what I have been trying to say!!! I just didn't do the fact checking!

Thanks for doing the leg-work for me! :D

Burger King has a triple Whopper meal too! :horror :horror :horror

Try getting your head around that!

Triple (bypass) Whopper: 71 fat 1200 cal 1380 sod.... Pretty much two double downs, as far as fat and calories go.

For the record, I have nothing against anything in this post. Not personaly a big fan of burgers/steak/"chicken" patties that are made out of TVP (texturized vegetable protein - god, just saying that phrase does make you gag a little), but "whole wheat waffles with Greek yogurt, blueberries and almonds" sounds delightful.

I try to eat healthy the majority of the time, but once in a blue moon a treat like a Double Down can really make my day! :joy

But maybe if LaMelnik had a DD it would open the floodgates of a gluttonous fast food binge! :horror
If so he better stay away!

Also, keep in mind that in most cases, people are getting the meal, not just the sandwich.

I've been avoiding posting in this thread for the past couple of days, but I have to respond to this.

Why don't existing sandwiches garner such negative scrutiny? THEY DO. As for why they don't in this thread, that would be due to the fact that there aren't over 700 posts praising those sandwiches as being the greatest food invention ever (equating eating them with "dying and going to heaven"), rationalizing eating them (the "only eating them once in a while is okay" is probably the worst of all), and mob-attacking anyone who dares to point out that the sandwich is not healthy.

Whoppers, Big Macs, and most other fast food items are just as bad as the double down, and in many cases much worse, as you rightly pointed out. But that does not make the double down a good choice, even by comparison. It is still a stupid thing to eat. If someone wants to eat one, that's their choice. But at least have the integrity to admit that it is a stupid thing to do, but you are doing it anyway because you like the taste.

Oh, and as for what is hypocritical, there is no hypocrisy in NOT giving the same attention to the sandwiches that have existed for years right now, because those sandwiches have already been given more attention than they deserve. The double down, on the other hand, is new and getting far too much positive attention, so a little balance seems appropriate.

And with that, I'm done with this thread.

Just for the record I was in no way implying that the Double Down somehow becomes a health food by default based upon higher fat, caloric and sodium totals of other fast food items. Just the opposite, to be perfectly honest. I feel we take for granted just how bad some of these items are from a nutritional standpoint, especially those that have been around for years.

As for the attention that the Double Down is receiving I would say that the majority is negative, at least the intent. Now as reasonably intelligent adults we recognize that any publicity is good publicity, creating the opposite effect of that which is intended. Ultimately it's up to the individual.

Bravo!!

All that these fast food companies want to do is challenge each other these days to see who can come up with the fattiest unique looking food product that will cause a stir and get millions of people to try it once or twice.

The thing with me is, i never get a double or triple anything, if i am having fast food, i will get like a couple tacos or like 3-4 small hamburgers from Mc Fattys..sure its bad food but, its the healthiest choices on the menu and i hardly ever buy that crap. Its always quality resturants for me or Subway from time to time.

P.S Burger King is ____ing disgusting...never again.

Most of this thread is just pure fun. It's just people having fun with something. After a while, we'll find something else that tickles our fancy and we'll talk about that and forget all about this.

Anyway, when I was little, I came across an Allan Sherman comedy album, I think at my grandma's. I loved it and played it alot. Anyway, I remembered this bit on it and thought it was appropriate for this thread. :lol

Sorry for the clarity. It's the only one on youtube.

Anyone heard about this breadless sandwich? According to CNN.com, it's coming next week.
