So...... I'm here at work and I had heard through the grapevine that a co-worker bought both a grilled and original Double Down the other day. He had the grilled that day and the original the next. Anyway, he tells me they were both delicious, which doesn't surprise me.
We get to talking and that leads to us looking up nutritional info on various burgers. A Whopper with cheese is worse than a double down (44 fat 720 cal 1240 sod). Carl's Jr Super Star with Cheese, way worse (58 fat, 920 Cal, 1640 mg sodium). Whopper Meal, large fry and a Coke came to 71 g fat, and 1650 cal and 2080 mg sodium.... So all in all I'd say the media hype around this Double Down is nothing short of hypocritical... Why don't existing fast food sandwiches garner such negative scrutiny? Moreover, why don't new burgers? Carl's Jr's brand new Grilled Cheese Bacon Six Dollar Burger has 610 calories and 69 grams of fat.... oh yeah, and 2280 mg of sodium. Incredible.
I've been avoiding posting in this thread for the past couple of days, but I have to respond to this.
Why don't existing sandwiches garner such negative scrutiny?
THEY DO. As for why they don't
in this thread, that would be due to the fact that there aren't over 700 posts
praising those sandwiches as being the greatest food invention ever (equating eating them with "dying and going to heaven"), rationalizing eating them (the "only eating them once in a while is okay" is probably the worst of all), and mob-attacking anyone who dares to point out that the sandwich is
not healthy.
Whoppers, Big Macs, and most other fast food items
are just as bad as the double down, and in many cases much worse, as you rightly pointed out. But that does not make the double down a
good choice, even by comparison. It is still a stupid thing to eat. If someone wants to eat one, that's their choice. But at least have the integrity to admit that it is a stupid thing to do, but you are doing it anyway because you like the taste.
Oh, and as for what is hypocritical, there is no hypocrisy in NOT giving the same attention to the sandwiches that have existed for years
right now, because those sandwiches have already been given more attention than they deserve. The double down, on the other hand, is
new and getting far too much positive attention, so a little balance seems appropriate.
And with that, I'm done with this thread.
