Ok, it only counts if you cried real tears and laughed until your face hurt...

"Sometimes, at school, the teachers give us Scotch."

(my daughter is four years old, in preschool)

huh, what?

Butterscotch?

"No"

Scotch tape?

"No"

Snacks?

"No"

Is it something you eat or drink?

"No"

I tried so hard not to laugh when we talked about it. When I told my husband later that night, I about died.

I still have no idea what she was talking about.

I want to hear your stories!!

My wife is a former teacher and says it may be scotch tape.

I don't think I'll ever know; she said it wasn't scotch tape...

The haircut:

It could have been so much worse.

The triceratops pinata:

We didn't yell "surprise". It wouldn't have worked out and I don't think she missed it.

I like the haircut. :)

Were they able to break the pinata? My niece has had one every year for 10 years, and I don't think there's been a single kid who could.

No. I let each kid try it once, blindfolded, then once not blindfolded. Then my husband tried it blindfolded and it didn't work. He cut the belly open and threw the candy out to all the kids.

I think there may be a conspiracy among the pinata makers to destroy the self-confidence of children by making indestructible pinatas.

We buy the pull string pinatas now. We have had too many problems with the whole swinging a bat or stick thing.

We had one of those before and it worked very well.

I was actually surprised at how well they have worked for us. We even had one that a few kids ripped strings off of early (accidently) and there were still enough strings for all of the kids to grab one. We also have them all pull them at the same time so that noone knows who actually pulled the opening string and eureka!...No screaming kids mad because it was not them.

Not a funny thing...but my daughter called me at work so that she can read to me over the speaker phone.

How cool is that?

That's very cool. How old is she?

In August, my 3 yr old wrote her name, twice. Do you think I can get her to do it again? Of course not. I'm just happy my brother & grandparents watched her do it. She just started preschool in September.

She is 6. 1st grade but she was struggling through a fifth grade book on the phone. I had to help her with about every third word. Didn't get anything done on my report while she was reading to me...but I am all good with it.

Sounds familiar...with mine...all three of them...they learned to write words in chalk on the sidewalk early...but when it came time to write them on paper in school...yeah, well...

That's fantastic! I'm sure you're very proud. :D

LOL...I am monsterously proud of her. But I don't mean to insinuate that she is reading at 5th grade level...she is a little above her age group...but just a little...she just bit off more than she could chew with that book.

Maybe kids are different, now (as far as interests are concerned), but I thought the Nancy Drew books were great. One of those was the first "real" book I ever read (at 7 years old). I did have trouble with a bunch of words, though. My kids love going to the book store and I probably read to them at least 4 nights/week. I love to see how interested they are in different stories and understanding what is being read to them.

We are very fortunate that our kids all love to read. My son struggles in school a lot. But even he loves to read and does it every night in bed before he goes to sleep. And what a huge help that has been for him in school.
