Are you legalization supporters gonna come up with something solid?

You're going to have to explain your idea of 'solid' because reducing crime and increasing wealth sound pretty solid to me. So does the fact that there is no basis in natural right for anyone to have criminalized it in the first place. A very solid argument can be made for the unconstitutionality of drug prohibition.

I think of all the social issues on the pallet that needs dealing with, money, legislation, whatever... Pot is far down on my list of priorities quite frankly. Its' like arguing about whether we should cook some pancakes for dinner while the house is burning down.

It is. But in the meantime, reducing the police's ability to exercise an arbitrary power, for any reason, can be nothing but good.

Legalizing will help cure the money issue by Taxing it.. The Gov will make a mint.. Pancakes for dinner?... You sound like you've been smoking weed pal...

Love it or leave it.

Bodie, I meant when they were actually stoned. At that particular moment, I do not feel they are better drivers. And I've thrown napkins at people who were stoned and their reflexes were not superior. I've never heard anyone say they were better drivers when drunk but have heard them say that about being stoned.

I've played high (no pun) level basketball stoned.. Reflexes are sharp as a tack.. But I don't get all silly and goofy when I smoke, yet I know what your saying some do, these are most likely more light weight smokers... To group us all under that is making a broad generalization..

People who say that they drive better prolly mean they are more cautious when driving as opposed to more aggresive when not.. Either way I'm not an advocate of impaired driving..

Its so easy to get legalizing won't change my access to it, I just think that the government should tap into this goldmine to help our deficit.. Its a great start to get out of this financial mess that has our state so crippled..

pot does not make you a better driver,l said this earlier in this thread were l got high and drove threw a blizard and almost crashed.BUT for some it does seem to help.one of my friend got his first dirt bike last ear we went biking and he got high just before we went riding and l said man your going to die dirt biking high but he didnt he was giving her,but if l got high and went biking l would still be in the hospital but thats because he smokes like 10 joints a day for years so he used to it.

What were the intelligent and clear thoughts of reason for legalizing Alcohol and cigarettes?

1) There were none that I am aware of.

2) Has nothing to do with the subject of the thread.

okay you must of not red them all then here it is.everyone does it so who cares.it is illegal yes.but everyone will still do it.so if the goverment legalizes it then the same thing will be going on but the goverment will have some extra money to help fix there broken ass country, and they should do the same with prostitution.

Actually I have read every post. This is all you got?

Fail

These are not going to happen. This has been covered as well.

Oh...and by "solid" I mean a true benefit to society.

So far I have heard:

1) Everybody does it so why not - Brilliant (not) - The "Lemming" argument is the oldest and most useless argument on Earth. Marijuana is a mind-altering substance and a simple application common sense will easily show that...like alcohol...widespread use of this substance will create dangers from those who abuse it. And the Federal government enabling the abusers will only give them an argument to rationalize their pathetic behavior.

2) Taxing it will solve all of America's money problems - Brilliant (not) - We have a tax and spend government giving them more tax money has never shown itself to be the answer to the National Debt...so what in the hell makes this diferent.

3) It will cut down on crime - Brilliant (not) - As has been pointed out...the vast majority of violent crime related to drugs is from harder drugs, not marijuana. And if the government taxes it like some of you guys seem to hope they will...it will just lead to many people continuing to get it on the black market, thereby making a hugely smaller impact on crime than many of the spin doctors want to make it sound.

4) Take an item of control away from the government - Brilliant (not) - The very argument of taxing it shows that it will still be controlled by the government...just enforced in a different way. It seems to me that there are some who do not undestand the idea of giving the government less power.

it will significantly reduce the people we have in jail, we have way too many people in jail for simple marijuana possession, and this would be the biggest boost to the California state economy that we could possibly do at the moment - i can not think of a single thing that would impact the economy in the same way that a tax on marijuana would.

the versatility of the plant itself is well known and would have benefits beyond the medical. Speaking of medical though pot is better than the asprin people use for aches and pains, it's better than the addictive sleeping pills people use for their insomnia, and the calming effect for people with anxiety that can't get xannax or don't want it because of how addictive xannax and clonopin are, but you should already know this so having to re-explain all of this to you seems ridiculous.

I will have to refer you to the post I made previously. I got bumped when I was going to preview it and posted it before I finished it.

This is absolutely wrong thinking. Not only would the tax not go a millimeter toward helping the state economy, but realistically...releasing all those users who are in jail would only add to the out-of-work people on the streets looking for a way to get a meal (and we all know how hungry pot makes a person)...and so adds just one more point against the drop-in-crime argument.

what about the 2nd paragraph, though i think getting people out of jail would still be a good thing. Plus as far as jobs go we would have to make some new farms to harvest the plants so we will need people for these farms.

Don't forget that people will actually get even more enjoyment out of Avatar. I'm sure that movie is way better after you smoke up. :rock

Medical use of marijuana is all but legal now. I would not argue it's medical use any more than I would argue the medical use of strong pain killers. But those strong pain killers are not legal for the general public to use at their discretion either. If the marijuana can do the same thing as other medically beneficial drugs without negative side effects...I am cool with that...but that is still under controlled circumstances.

LOL...Strangely...this is actually the most inarguable point that has been made for legalization of marijuana.

Even I think the stuff is a lot of fun.

Lets be honest. If you live Cali do you really think most of the people with a script for "medical" reasons really has it for that? People go to the doctor they write them the script. :lol
