I like the LS bust fo sho! It shall be mine....oh yes it shall be mine.

In fact reminds me of a Nursing Home patient I took care of last semester named Phil.

Phil I shall call it.

The narrow waist bothers me a little but the biggest issue I have is the wrinkled face. I prefer the smooth appearance of both Weta offerings. But like I said before, I LIKE IT! And I still reserve the right to change my mind as time passes. :lol

A couple other things I'm not sure I'm fond of... from the front, his head looks like it's too narrow under the crown. The hair looks more like something from the Gentle Giant Animated Maquette line.

I'm sure finding a lot of things I'm not fond of for someone who really likes it. :lol

I don't want to fan the flames of controversy, but I thought it would be worth posting a direct comparison of the face sculpt of this bust with the sculpt of the SSW bust.

ss/weta pwns! all.

I have to agree that I prefer the SSW; I like how the collar goes right up the neck and maintains the slender wraith-like feel, as do the sweeping strands of hair and the erect posture--I think it's just more accurate to the feel of the character.

Still, the LS is an impressive piece, and people will be really impressed by it anyway.

Man, what happened to this thing? Doesn't look very good at all. He looks like a VCD Bust. Not impressed at all.

Whoa, Josh! Way to stick it to all those people who complain that you are never critical of anything SS produces! :D

OK, now to get back on topic, I think I am warming up to the piece a little more.

I have come to realize that we (or at least I) have tended to associate the character with the SSW sculpts more than from the actual movie. Over at S&F someone posted some screen grabs of the Nazgul from the Weathertop scene.

The bust comparison shot I posted earlier, for reference:

And the Witch-king:

It seems pretty obvious from these shots that the new bust is a dead ringer (all puns completely intended) for the character in the first shot, but not for the Witch-king. However, it also seems to me that the film version of the Witch-king is actually somewhere in-between the look of the SSW bust and the new LSB, at least in style.

In fact, I might even go so far as to say, based on these shots, that the new bust is actually slightly closer to the film version of the Witch-king than the SSW version, even though the SSW version looks 'cooler'.

I can agree with that. If it was just labeled a Nazgul Bust then I'd be all over it, but for now I just can't get myself to want this piece.

I think the main issue is that his collar is too low rather than fitting right on the neck, giving the appearance of it being off. Now if only we could find a polystone tailor . . .

Eh? The main issue is his chunky face and chin - if it were only the collar that wouldn't be much of an issue.
