We had our friend's little red headed brother (maybe 7-8) dressed up in a black suit with a black pilots hat so he'd look like an SS Officer and chase him around the front yard with a real whip my aunt brought me back from Europe.

Seriously though... My son (he is eight almost nine now) has some friends that are great at pretend play. They chase each other with guns playing space soldiers and ALIENS or Indiana Jones or whatnot... But he has some friends that just don't understand pretend play at all. All they want to do is watch TV and play video games.
