I have no problem with you guys hyping this up to the sky- we are all Godzilla fans. However I am very guarded on this one. The "human drama" that will fill 70% of the film better be able to hold up it's end to support all the money sequences. Yes the Big G sequences look amazing but they do not constitute a "great" film...

Word. The last trailer has looked more action-movie style than down-to-the-roots Godzilla style. I do have the utmost faith in the cast, but so far we see how the plot affects each of them pretty much individually. Brian Cranston losing his wife. His son mad at him. Dude from Kick-Ass fighting to get back to his wife and child. We'll have some soldiers that we hope survive I'm sure. But nothing that really shows how Godzilla's devastation impacts the whole (outside of a tidal wave, a wrecked train, etc., shots that are in any monster/alien invasion film). Will it show the carnage from the standpoint of a whole nation? The utter chaos of what the inside of the hospitals will really look like? We'll see plenty of destruction like ANY Godzilla film, but will we see the images that will truly stay with us--such as loved ones dying right in front of characters, radiation poisoning, Godzilla's intention to kill or maim humans rather than clumsily (accidentally) killing those that can't get out of his way? The scene where Godzilla seems to duck underneath the battleship in the commercial to avoid it just gave me the idea that this film may be softer than the way it was originally hinted. They want Godzilla to be the symbol for all these things that they have talked about in interviews, yet Godzilla will have little screen time it seems and much of that will already generally be taken up by him fighting Mutos.

In my opinion, none of the Godzilla films where he has fought another monster have really been able to show his nightmarish impact on the grand scale of things. The first film did, because he was the relentless eradicator of Tokyo that kept coming regardless of how many horrifying things he did to innocent people. It focused on individuals of course, but it showed how the rest of Japan was affected. There was no upside to having Godzilla around--it was purely terror. On top of that, I'd honestly say that the only two Godzilla films that involved a climactic fight at the end (like this film will have) that truly still featured Godzilla is a terrifying "villain" would be Mothra vs. Godzilla '64 and GMK. Every other time, even if he was the bigger threat, he was humanized in a sense and made ore relatable.

I think this Godzilla is fat and Nihonjin jaa'arimasen! :lecture

:lol are we gonna pretend all the other Godzillas were nice & slender?

I mean, I've heard the term thunder thighs used to refer to previous versions countless times.

This Godzilla is just a victim of impossible standards set by fashion magazines.

Well, the old Godzilla movies had a man dressed a fat suit, which created weird proportions in thunder-thighzilla. But, in this day and age with CGI, you'd expect a more realistic looking creature. Not midlife-crisiszilla that's suffering from the same bloated face and throat, like old Arnold and Stallone from The Expendables :lecture.

I think this looks way more realistic than any Godzilla ever made, and if anything it looks bad ass and even muscular to me, not fat, I don't know anything about the lore of this franchise, but this is by far the best design in my eyes.

The face is menacing, the thick neck depicts power (notice there's no double chin :lol), and I even saw a pic where it looks it has a six pack :lol
