In the anime genre yes its very popular but just not very loud as it use to be. Alot of people find that stupid music video offensive as its just another dumb stereotype of Japanese culture.
Ugh... no wonder he doesn't have any bawzz...
...I feel like this is the worst thing I've ever seen in my life...
Forgot one
then it isn't because anime is not pop culture. like at all
anime is very niche.
That's true, in fact, being a DC fan, I see nothing but strong anime influences in the DC animated movies from some time now, quite a long time to be honest, the way they're drawn and animated screams anime to me.
Go to any comic convention. You'll always see sombody cosplaying as an anime character.
MOS. You had to be crazy if you didnt think dbz when you watched that movie. Your right DC and Marvel are heavily inspired by anime. Ironman and wolverine have anime series and Dc has batman shorts that are anime.
It aint popular like the pokemon days but you have to crazy not to think its pop culture. People stream anime now so its not on tv like it was in the 90s
yeah nothing but a bunch of nerds
it is still not really a part of american pop culture
Havent you heard? America is nerdy now. We live in an age where its cool to be a nerd. You can have the most mild intelligence things like avengers or spiderman and be considered a nerd. I remember in college I wore a spiderman shirt and this girl complimented me on it and said she was a big fan and then I asked her what her favorite villain was and she said the guy with the metal arms.yeah nothing but a bunch of nerds

Not really man, the sonic booms and the shock waves were in the comics long before Dragon Ball Z, although a Live action DBZ movies could take cues from those special FX, just add actual martial arts, being honest, DBZ didn't cross my mind one time in my 3 watches in the theater, and I'm a life-long Goku fan, but I can see why people thought about DBZ.
I mean, the animated movies, they're almost straight up anime in my eyes.
And yeah, guys like Jim Lee taking strong cues from Manga from ages now, I like to think it's all interconnected, Manga was heavily influenced by comics, and in time comics were heavily influenced by Manga, it's all cool to think about really.
UUUUUUUUUUGH, I hate fake-nerds, they make me feel non-specialHavent you heard? America is nerdy now.
Not really, Del Toro admitted to have watched a ton of animes but never to have watched Eva.Pacific rim was basically a love letter to evangalion.
Lol I know I guess its the city fight that made me think of dbz. The high flying fighting in air crap that dbz did.

In fact, every single influence that you see on screen most likely came from other animes.
But yeah, PR is a spiritual baby of anime.
Really? That whole drift with your partner thing reminded me of when they needed to connect with the EVA. Also that fluid in the helmet thing reminded me of when they went into the liquid when they got in the EVA. Well i guess you can call it more like voltron or gundam then lol
Yup. And kaiju movies. Since Evangalion is the most popular mech anime people compared PR to it I guess. When i saw the trailer It reminded me of it but without the confusing crap.Yup I thought so too, but in an interview he mentioned that all that came from other animes, but PR came from anime in the end anyway.

So yea America is basically nerdy now and thats why we have so many cool movies like this one coming out. Sure its not a part of america pop culture but america still loves it and embraces it fully.
Pacific rim was basically a love letter to evangalion.
if anime is part of american pop culture then tell me how many hollywood movies are being made of anime properties? ...
zero, that's how many if anime really was that big you would see it in stores or in places like Toys R us or Hot Topic. there might be a couple of shirts here and there but nothing major.
outside of Cons there is not a lot of anime merchandise. It is not like you can go to walmart or Target and pick up a lot of stuff. it is just not there
